I ran a search, and reviewed the last several pages of novalty's thread, but didn't see anything relevant.

I use Federal primers; for .357s, #200s. An area LGS just called and said he could get some and they would be 35.00 a thousand. I'm wondering if any of you have seen these or other Federals in your neighborhood and what the going rate seems to be presently. I know that Sportsmen's Den in Shelby, Ohio, and Fin, Feather, & Fur in Ashland would have them for less -when they have them(I've contacted them from time to time and they've been out each time, or else I haven't been able to get away to get them -both stores are around 1-1/2 hour away.).

I still have plenty at this time but would like to stock up some.

Thank you for your assistance,
Andy

Yeah, I've noticed when folks are out of an item it is usually priced pretty well! :) I don't think $35/M is a very bad price right now! You might find cheaper, CCI is usually cheaper but then you have haz mat shipping.

Around here, $35-$40/1000 is the normal price for standard Federal primers, and $40-45 is typical for Match primers.

One local shop has had match primers on sale for a few weeks at $34.95(and they have every type in stock except for small pistol magnum). I've been stocking up on them-the Federal match primers are about the only thing I use these days.

It seems like $30-40 is pretty typical. Beyond that, the primer is a pretty small portion of the cost of reloading, so I don't get to worked up about the price. $5 on a carton is half a cent per round difference.

My last batch of 1000 Federal 100 small pistol primers was priced at $39.95 from the local reloading shop that has provided my supplies throughout "the drought". The sales slip is dated October 2nd, 2014. The total was $42.39 OTD with sales tax.

I recall being a little surprised at what seemed like a "high" price but still remember how grateful I was for their fairly priced reloading supplies not all that long ago. I will go back the next time my inventory dips down.

Well they used to be a small price. When primers were $15 per 1000, 1.5c per rd. Now they are double that. Powder is now the cheap part of a handgun load. Yet, people are always trying to cut down on that cost. The typ service pistol load of powder cost about 1c if bought in bulk. If not buying in bulk today, $35/K is a fair price.

Thanks, fellas. At my current rate of shooting I have at least a couple years' supply, but who knows what things will be like then?

Regards,
Andy

$35 +/- per 1K for CCI, Federal, Winchester at my local shop. Supply is still sporadic but at least they have primers in stock more frequently lately.

The cheapest I've been able to buy primers has been $32.06/1,000 for Rem 1 1/2 SP (bought 5K from Midway on clearance, with shipping/HazMat $160.30 total. Otherwise, Fin, Feather & Fur had them for $29.99 + tax = $32.10/1,000.

Otherwise around my area, $35-$40 is the norm. If I can only buy 1K at a time, I'll buy local-it's a 6 hour round trip for me to Ashland, OH to F,F,F. :-(

Local Cabela's had primers for $29.95 per thousand. Grabbed a box of large pistol, small pistol and large rifle and was glad to get them. The last primers I bought were $14.99 per thousand, they have doubled in price but what can you do?
If you have a Bass Pro Shop, check with them also.

Primer prices

As I've stated before the new prices are going to be in the 30-40 dollar price range. Every time we come out of a big shortage the prices are higher. We will typically pay more to get them during said shortage and of course the manufacturers see this..costs go up for them slightly but they raise the prices to match the shortage prices..or close. Powder is typically around 30 bucks a pound right now.. Wholesale is typically 19-20 if you can find it. I don't think you will see the prices drop significantly Do Y'all?? Reloading supplies were my business for more than 30 yrs.

Midway has Federal primers for $ 145.00 per 5K. Buy 10K and, with Haz Mat and S&H it comes to around $ 33.50 per 1K. Not knowing what the future holds, when components become available it's a good idea to stock up.

My records indicate in July of this year MidSouth had a huge primer sale. Orders over 5K got free haz matt. This was the cheapest I have seen Federal primers all year they were going for 27.25 per K:cool:

After that sale event I have not tracked Federal primers consistently being in stock at the online retailers I prefer to order from. I have found it best to make one large order per year or participate in a group buy when trying to stretch the budget.

The shop where I buy most of my powder and primers has always
charged more for Federal primers than other brands even a few years
ago when all prices were lower. I rarely buy Federal because of this
and their oversize packaging. The last time I was in there, about a
month ago, Federal primers were about $40 a thousand.

Federal's are $29.99 in my neck of the woods. A LGS also has CCI small pistol on sale for $22.99...time to stock up!

$35/K is on the low side of what I've been able to find. But where I live, there is NO reloading supplies of any kind available. I've been buying my primers in Wisconsin when I am there to visit the family.
