prices on Ebay...the mentality of it all

There they go again, mentioning prices on ebay. So you need a part. Or your selling. and you look on there to see what they're going for..BIG difference in what they are for sale for AND what they've sold for...BUT you've read it and or heard it before...."Well one sold on ebay for_________"(fill in the blank). Fantasy vs reality....of course if someone is selling,they'll list at a "sale" price....NOT what they've sold for...The sharks at the gun shows play this game....another thing they dont do..is subtract the commision and other fees....They try and get it all. Just remember folks, the high bidder won it because they were the only one to pay that price. The ONLY one!...thats when the sellers think everyone will pay that....The mentality of it all

I wish you could sell firearms on Ebay and FB for that matter. The auction houses would dry up pretty fast.

I sell on Ebay and often do very well...You can easily search "completed items" and you WILL see what they sold for, not what they are "going for".

When I'm selling something and someone says, "I can get cheaper at _____X_____." I say, "You should go over and buy at that price!"

Or if they're selling and looking for me to buy and they say "I've seen ____X____ go for way more than what you're offering on eBay". I say "Then go list it and good luck"! Then I look at them and restate my previous offer. Then, I say, "I'm a cash buyer..."

It's all part of the haggle game.

My solution is to only pay what I am comfortable with when I buy and not accept less than what I'm comfortable with when I'm selling. I don't really care what anybody else thinks about the selling or buying price.

By chance when at a show and start haggling on price and they say," well one just like this sold online the other day for $ xxx" I usually tell them to sell it online and walk away. I sold lot on " flea bay" when it started years ago but when they acted like Your Items were theirs, see you hate to be you. Internet has and continues to wreck many markets.

Over the years, eBay and Amazon have become my favorite stores. I can find all sorts of obscure things there that I need but can't find locally, and often for somewhat lower prices for those things I can find locally. It is a huge cornucopia of stuff. If it's something I need immediately, I will buy locally, assuming I can find a local source. If I can wait a few days, or if there is no good local source, I let my fingers do the walking through eBay or Amazon. Hardly a week passes without my buying something from eBay or Amazon.

True. eBay is not the business it was 25 years ago. Back then I was a buyer and buyers ruled. Prices were low for everything and anything. Now it is kind of like Amazon. Most buyers are faced with sellers who post items with a "Buy it now" price. Occasionally I use the "Make Offer" button and negotiate with the seller. If the price is fair I don't. I occasionally sell on eBay too, but I wish it was 25 years ago.

We asked her, to do what?
'Get online on eBay!'
What the is eBay?
She was a Doll Collector- Dealer.
So I go to eBay, back then it looked more like collector- used stuff than it does now.

I use eBay for HO model railroad stuff. There are no local hobby shops around here anymore, and the ones that are deal mostly in Lionel.

So I can't complain about eBay.

A little off topic....but... If I were to buy the last 100 N frame target grips listed on eBay, I would end up with 90 K frames and 10 N frames. Evidently the general public thinks that all the targets grips are for the larger guns. Oh well such is life.
