Problems with Federal Bulk pack

Went shooting yesterday and had some different results. I picked up 300 rounds of Mini-Mags at Cabelas ($19 which I thought was pretty good) and brought the other 200 I had left and about 400 rounds of Fed Bulk 525. It ended up that every magazine of Mini-Mags had at least one, if not two, failure to feed. The round would get stuck in the mag and push up. The firing pin would actually strike the middle of the casing and bend the case and the copper. Only with the Mini-Mags. My Fed Bulk ammo fed flawlessly. So I'm not sure why they would get stuck like they did but I guess I'll keep the Mini-Mags for my GSG1911. Just thought I'd share my latest experience.

I was finally contacted by Federal yesterday. They are having me to return ship them the bulk pack, and giving me a refund check for the purchase. And that is strange about the CCI, as I have not had any issues at all with them in my 15 22.. then again, untill this weekend I had never had any problems with the federal bulk packs either.

Yeah I was very surprised that the Mini-Mags had issues. I tried loading them with the spring assist button and without and it seemed no matter what there was an issue with it not popping up properly to feed.

I've shot off 600 rounds of mini-mags in the past two weeks and I did have some that loaded weird but it seemed there was too much was on the tip of the bullet. Usually I open the package and dump them on the table and all of them come out. The last package I shot had about ten bullets that didn't come out of the plastic tray, sticking at the tip. After tapping the package, they came out. Some of these did not load properly into the chamber.

Some things up at federal. Broke in my rifle with CCI mini-mags,no problem. Started using Fed 550 maybe a fte every 100-150 rds. My last two boxes problems almost every round.
End up with 1 round in chamber, 1 jammed into that and the empty cartridge behind them.

More Fed Bulk problems for me again this weekend. Main issue was inconsistent loads severly effecting accuracy. Took 25 rounds out of 4 new boxes (same lot # on boxes). Had problems with about 1 of every 3 rounds barely firing with bullet striking almost a foot low at 50 yds. Definately a quality spill at Federal.

Does anyone have a sku number for the fed lightning at wally world. My "informant" said they are not going to have them for a while, and just went on vacation. I'm going to have to stop being nice and buy all i can get when they come in. From what i read on other forums people are buying them in bricks.

I've been running a lot of Federal with no issues. Thanks for the info. I'll definitely be paying close attention from now on.

The last time out I went through 550 rounds of Federal bulk and a few hundred rounds of CCI Blazers. While the Blazers were absolutely consistent round after round, I noticed a fair number of the Federal's were light loads. They fired and cycled the action properly, but you could hear and feel the difference. I wasn't counting, but I would estimate maybe 40 out of the 550 pack were "off". I've got one more unopened box o' 550 that I bought at the same time / same place. I'll check the lot number when I get home from work today. I never noticed this in the past with Federal bulk ammo.. hopefully it's just a glitch that's been fixed.

I've used a lot of Federal bulk and have the occasional "light" load and the very rare shot that is light enough that I check to see if the bullet made it out of the barrel. They've always gone out but if the action doesn't cycle, I feel the need to check the barrel.

The light loads do not even average 1/ box and the really light loads have only occurred 3 or 4 times out of, probably, 5,000 rounds. I can't remember that last failure to fire.

The MiniMags are far more consistent but at a cost.

(I'm over 8,000 rounds now and I realize that some of the big boys have double that and more but I'm trying!)

The lot # for my bad batch of Federal bulk 550 packs is 1GX605, and I purchased 6 boxes. I've heard the ammunition is not returnable. Do I have any chance of recovering $ from the manufacturer?

Yes, call federal up as I did after making this thread. They called me back, I explained the problem, I then got a UPS shipping label delivered to my front door, and then shipped the defective rounds back to Federal. The lady told me that they would issue a full refund, even rounding it up to the nearest dollar amount. She told me that Federal issues checks to be mailed out on Fridays. My lot number was 1HX593

Have there been problems with the Federal 525 packs too?

Took a box of the 525 pack out monday. Picked up 6K rounds from cabalas of these rounds in the last few months. This lot 1HZ680.
I have fired these ok in my Mark III 22/45 with some duds but when I put these in the 15-22 I had quite a few failure to feed and three of those bent in half rounds in 3 magazine loads.
The consistancy was fine. I was hitting a target at over 150 yards. My daughter was taking a few shots when I had the dreaded OOB explosion.
I Packed it up and sending it back to S&W tomorrow. gun s/n DTXxxxx
I have fired about 2.5 k rounds and have had no issues with exception of a few ftf. The M&P loves the aguila supermax I have had no failures at all with the 500 those I put down range.
I think I will stick to supermax and the mini mags from now on. I guess I will use the federals in bolt action. I have been using the federals 550 from the walmart for years with few issues I was hoping the 525 were that good but in the 2 boxes if have shot I have not been happy with these.
