I was out shooting my S&W 617 22LR 10 shot today. A few times the trigger seemed to kind of lockup and not want to advance the Cylinder to the next round. I would have to pop the cylinder out then put it back to get it to fire the next round. Then when trying to empty the empty shells, the push rod to do that is really hard to push. It did not do it on every 10 rounds, probably about half. I was using CCI Mini and some Winchester Expert Hollow Points.

Any thought's?

Thanks

Clean the charging holes. Not uncommon for rimfire revolvers to have hard extraction-also try some other brands of ammo. The first problem sounds like you might not have a round fully seated.

send it back to smith wesson ---it is free and worth monkey around with it.

Could also be the forcing cone area has become packed with lead & the barrel/cylinder gap has a smidge of lead there..22lr is Very Dirty in most cases..
What I would do is as others have said brush out the charge holes with a .270" brass brush & take a brass/bronze brush to the forcing cone area, Then see If the trouble persists or if you've found what's going on.
Being it's stainless brush the face of the cylinder too to remove any lead or carbon..
My old 617 had a barrel gap of around .002"-.003"... This Could be the trouble..
Good Luck with that Over Accurate revolver..

Get yourself a 22LR boresnake. It costs about $15 and has fixed all dirty chamber/barrel problems I have had. Just run it through each chamber every 400-500 rounds of so to keep them clean and to make sure the rounds extract properly. It also cleans all the gunk out of the barrel and forcing cone.

Thanks for the responses.

I'll try cleaning it. The first time it did it was my first trip to the range, and this last time was the second time I have had the gun out. So there is only 200 rounds through it so far. I did clean it after the first trip.
