ProMag modification remorse?

Because they presume the reader knows the laws of their particular state. An invalid presumption, obviously, based on reading a lot of posts. Some folks also assume that every state's laws are the same as theirs - again, invalid assumption.

Then again, some folks are just ... :)

That's why my ProMag 10rnd longs are staying 10rnd longs...if I want to shoot legally in MD. Currently, we're allowed 20 rnds but that could be ending soon. Of course I do have my 25- and 32-rounders just in case I happen to be in the middle of nowhere with no one around ;)

Can someone please explain to me why almost every magazine modification thread almost never includes the caveat of legality of state and local laws?

People need to know their own laws or laws of the places to which they sell. That's it. Nuff said.

I am always amazed by the people who buy a firearm with no clue what their state's firearms laws are. There's evidence of that almost every day in some thread here. I also see it at the range when I have RO duty. Here lots of folks assume that because a 15-22 is a .22 rimfire, it is not covered under Connecticut's AWB rules. WRONG!!!!

Has nothing to do with shooting legally. Since this is a Maryland Law it only pertains to "in State" actions - says nothing about possession of "same" within the state. If you do the modification out of state at a friend's house it still meets the "four corners doctrine".

"A person may not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase, receive, or transfer a detachable magazine that has a capacity of more than 20 rounds of ammunition for a firearm." Md. Criminal Law Code § 4-305(b). This section does not apply to a .22 caliber rifle with a tubular magazine. Section 4-305(a).

Fortunately in Maryland the .22 rimfire clone is not considered an Assault Weapon as defined by current law. (In October it may change since the proposed law is based on cosmetic "evil" features....)

While I agree that people need to know the laws of their particular area or where they are selling, or for that matter where they are traveling -- I wouldn't dismiss it so cavalierly. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's contrary to the main purpose of this forum.

Just modified 4 mags and they fit 32 rounds perfectly. Gonna take em out this weekend. Question: How well do HPs feed in these?

Please explain.

Please reread my reply. What you quoted removed the qualifier.

Tips on modifying mags is the reason I found this forum.

Tips on modifying a magazine is one thing. Getting caught in violation of your state and local laws is quite another and quite serious. Not counting the chest puffers, I believe that there are quite a few people who have read the modification without considering their laws and some probably believe that it's legal, perhaps condoned by the owner, because they've read it enough times in here.

To my knowledge there is one issue that hasn't been mentioned and that is the security of these forums. Admittedly, it's a presumption on my part and clarification would be welcomed by anyone in authority.

I don't want the forum owner to get grief from outside forces because they allowed users to post potentially illegal modification information. Perhaps avoided by users posting a simple warning to check state and local law. A little CYA in these matters might go a long way.

So, while you understand the potential risks involved and wanted tips to modify your magazines and that's marvelous, you are not my concern.

And, so there is no ambiguity, I'm not in any way attempting to tear you a new one. I'm merely stating what I believe to be a legitimate issue.

Just so I'm not accused of removing something, I quoted your entire lengthy reply:

I still have no idea what you are talking about when you say something here goes against the "main purpose of this forum." Offering tips on how to enjoy your 15-22 that MIGHT be illegal for someone somewhere? Everyone needs to take responsibility for themselves. I annoys me every time I pick up a product and its covered in warning that any one with a brain doesn't need. The lengthy warning on the Ruger 10/22 (and maybe all their firearms) comes to mind.

I hope I don't come across as attacking you personally. I just feel strongly about how litigious our society has become, forcing us to CYA every time we open our mouths.

*warning, although my words may sound delicious to some, please do not attempt to eat them or the device on which they are displayed if such mastication in illegal in your particular locality.

Finally took my 4 modified promags to the range. Worked flawlessly. BTW, I cut all my followers down to 1 3/8. They held the bolt open as well.
