I will start prostate radiation treatment in a week or so.
Anyone have any words of wisdom as to effects or issues?

No one knows what the outcome will be.

This is what I have learned dealing with cancer for the last 11 years.

Cancer thrives on hate and fear. Don't feed it either one.

Cancer struggles being in an environment filled with love, laughter, gratitude and a positive attitude.

So why not make it as difficult on the cancer as you can?

I would suggest reading the book or buying The Secret DVD and
getting you a gratitude rock.

Went through 42 radiation treatments in 2007 and have had no recurrence of the cancer. I investigated radiation pellets, surgery, and direct beam radiation. Am very pleased with the results. Good luck with your treatment.

I went through 28 radiation treatments in Dec and Jan. I had a little diarrhea after the first treatment and nothing else except for more frequent trips to the bathroom at night to urinate. Good luck and make sure you drink all the water they tell you to before your treatment. You have to have a full bladder when you go in for your treatment. If you want some more info you can always pm me.

I have no experience with it either and neighbor, I'm sorry to hear you do.
It sounds like some good results have been had.
Remember, I'm not far from you if you need a ride for treatments or such.
We missed hooking up a couple of years ago due to your foot issue.
I'm still here and praying for you!

Don't sweat it - you've probably gone through the worst of the process with the biopsies and tats. That was unpleasant. The radiation only takes a few minutes and there's nothing to it. My Dr didn't even require a full bladder before each treatment. Having a good looking technician doesn't hurt either. My numbrs have gone down with each yearly blood test. I got to ring the bell.

Mine isn't bad enough, so I'm doing the watch and wait.
If I needed more I would opt for the radioactive seeds.
I don't know how bad yours is, but the seeds are the least invasive.
My uncle had the seeds and it worked for him.
Prayers to you Brother for a good outcome and a speedy recovery.
God heals and doctors send a bill.

I went through 38 treatments with the proton radiation treatments at MDAnderson Sept. thru Nov.last year. There was also some hormone treatments for 18 mos.
Everything went well.
I know there are a couple different types of radiation treatment and surgery is an option. I went with the proton because of it's targeted nature. I also visited with several people that went through the same with good results.
Best wishes and good luck.

I just finished -yesterday- Proton treatments at Texas Oncology. I had read all I could about the options, and Proton look the best even though my urologist did not mention it. Other than having to show up every morning for 6 weeks (instead of going to the range) it was a walk in the park. The worst part was implanting the markers, which was essentially the same as a biopsy. 30 days of hormone pills before the start.
Too early to judge results, but I'm confidant I made the best choice - for me.

Yep, that Lupron-depot shot is a butt-kicker. I had one shot in November and the 2nd shot in May, my last one. The side effects are not fun and hot flashes, among other side effects, can make you miserable. Ikabug, if you don't have a good razor get one. Shaving from the waist down isn't much fun either and more tedious than you think.

All the best OP.

I have been dealing with high PSA and Prostate issues for ~20 year.
Had the Needle Biopsies and regular monitoring and exams.

My father had Prostate Cancer and survived it.

Please post back on how it goes....

My father went through the treatments, and was cured of the cancer, but that was quite a few years ago. I just know it was when Mario Lemieux was going through his cancer treatments; lymph nodes, I believe.
Anyhow, the treatments are not like they were when Dad went through it; much less side effects. Good luck to you, and may God ride with you. Peace to you, and God Bless.

I went through this 22 years ago.. At that time the Dr told me if I was 72 or older something else would do me in... I was 58 at the time...

I handled my 7 Gleason score with radiation followed by radioactive seed implants……some 13 years ago. Problem solved. Side effects are never having to disappoint when asked for urine sample! I'm 76 and I am convinced prostate cancer will not kill you. Looking backwards, I'm not sure I should have done anything. No joke. Tom

I could spend a page on this, but I'll spare everyone. Had both: the DaVinci robotic surgery and radiation. Surgery and follow-up mishandled: P.S.A. was still relatively high so the surgeon gleefully announced, "You need radiation!" I had 39 radiation treatments in 2017. The treatments were NOT a few minutes. Terribly ill for several days after the treatments. While the P.S.A. has dropped to near-undetectable levels, I have never recovered from the radiation. I have no strength any more and am essentially homebound.

I am pleased that my fellow members above have done so well, but I now keep "personal history time" as to whether incidents happened before or after the cancer. While the above has not completely ruined my life, it has tried very hard to do so.
