I've put in quite a few bids, never successfully. :( There's a buyers premium on top of the bid price most times, sometimes as much as 16% or so(may vary depending on auction), you need to remember that before you get crazy.

OH! that's good to know!

And the buyers premium can be higher. I have seen some at 18% and 20%. The big auctions houses like Rock Island and Greg Martin use this site. But it's tough to find deals with that buyers premium which doesn't exist for those people bidding in person at the auction. If you are going to do it regularly it would probably be cheaper to buy a plane ticket or drive to the auction. Just my opinion.

I just attended a live auction yesterday, and it was on Proxibid. Quite a few sales to all over the country. Was a 325 gun auction, with primarily everyday used and quite a few "well used" guns, with a few nice pieces. Not a collectors show. With the pictures they had and the lousy descriptions, I wouldn't have bid on too many over the computer. Were over 550 people at this auction and bids were as usual "nuts". I relate the crowd to the fact it was a dull dreary snowy day. A used Ruger LCP for $425 (I bought mine retail about $100 less), and a run of the mill SKS for $425!!! If you wanted an old .22 single shot or a .410 or 20 ga.single shot there were plenty and going for $30 to $90.

Ive got a great deal on a M1917 last year but you have to remember the buyers premium if you don't a good deal can go sour real fast!!

My wife have bought several items from pottery to a Marlin Mounty through Proxibid.

What they do is allow you to search a bunch of different "live" auctions. Where this comes in handy is locating an item you are looking for on a non-related auction.

For example, I saw a .41 mag Marlin 1894S go for a very reasonable price at an estate auction. It seems the estate auctions or the other "non-gun" auctions are the place to find bargains.

If it is an all gun or gun related auction, you are going to find plenty people with the serious wants for a particular gun.

On one I saw what was described as a "rare" nickel K22. It was an obvious re-finish with a nice shiny nickel hammer. I thought is looked like a solid $300 gun. It sold for $600. Of course K22s are a hot item right now.
