pulling the pin tomorrow at 0730

My first thought when I saw the topic was, 'Someone's going to do away with himself.' Glad I was wrong.

The closest I ever was to being a policeman was briefly being a Pinkerton man...and now that the laughter has subsided, I will continue.

I've always thought police work must be akin to spending one's career wading knee-deep through human garbage, so I salute you for your service. My first response was, please don't grow a beard. But the subsequent post about 'you'll be back at the station house' got me thinking. So my amended advice is, DON'T go back. Grow a beard. Flirt with hippie girls. Read Democrat blogs. Listen to rap music.

Okay, that last bit about rap music is a bit extreme, but you get the idea. Life ain't a rehershal, so now's the time to see what act III has to offer instead of replaying act II

Congratulations. I retired from the USAF in 1983 sat for a few days and got bored to tears so I started working again and I am still working. The best advice I can give is to find something you love to do and do it a lot. Have a great retirement and thanks for your service.

Brother:

God Bless You......you made it. Thank you for your service.

Find something to keep you occupied.....you know what our odds are after retirement.

Congrats for making it this far. I'm gonna wait at least another 15 months and see what I feel like. I go to work every morning knowing I can tell them to KMA and walk out if I feel like it. So far I haven't. The only thing bad I see about retirement is I'm gonna have to start reloading because of a lack of free ammo. I hope you enjoy your retirement.

Thanks for keeping us all safer.

And don't worry about retirement; you'll get used to it. I wish I had retired about 20 years before I actually did it.

Since 1973. I was in the 2nd grade in 1973! Nixon was in the White House! WOW, you have earned your retirement sir! Enjoy it and God bless you.

I've been retired since '06 after 25 yrs. That lasted about 2 months and I went back to work. No LE this tme, 25 yrs was enough needed a change. Congradulations on tour retirement!

congrats, thats a long time. i retired as a police officer from the commmonwealth of mass, and i don't know how i found time to go to work. however being retired you still have to make a decision each morning. the decision is shall i do anything i want to, or should i do nothing at all. all the best!

I retired a year ago after 33 years with the forest service, it will take you a while to get use to retirement but you will do just fine. Thanks for protecting us all of these years. May you stay healthy and collect your retirement funds for many, many years to come.

Good for you. I started in 1972 and retired in 1997, but then went to work for another 11 years with the Municipal Clerk of Court. Retired completely at the end of 2008 and do not regret it at all.:D

Oh, I also grew a beard once I pulled the pin too.

So -- -- How's retirement so far?

I still can't figure out how I ever had enough time to go to work...

Pulled the pin myself on July 5 after 31 1/2 years. Have to say it is bittersweet. Nice not having to put up with the BS and no schedule to follow, but still feeling a little lost not doing what I had done most of my adult life. I am starting to like it better as I am now realizing I don't have to get up early if I don't want to, and most things will wait until later if I don't feel like it at the moment. Enjoy your retirement LT, I know you have earned it.

Many find that just given a little time in retirement, they end up with a very busy schedule doing the things they enjoy. WHEN and WHERE THEY choose to enjoy it too.
