After my last go around with S&W customer service, I told myself I will not purchase any S&W branded guns anymore.

Well, that changed when I saw and had to bring home what you see below. It's a S&W model 629 with a 3 inch barrel that I absolutely needed to own.

I've had my share of 3" snub N frames before, from the run of the mill 44Mag Backpacker to the more exclusive RSR version. Also had the very rare Model 610 in 10mm and 625 45cal model of 1989 all in the 3" barrel configuration.

This new to me 3" N frame isn't particularly rare as far as numbers produced but it does have some special features. It has a pimptastic polished finish, unfluted cylinder, full underlug, and a full length extractor rod. It's also a -4 so it retains all the old fashioned awesomeness, being the hammer mounted firing pin, no-lock, no MIM and all forged internals.

I believe this one is a Lew Horton stock called the combat carry or something like that. Bit no matter what it is, I really like it as I believe it is the best aesthetically and well balanced revolver out there.

I put some K/L Aherns temporarily until I can obtain proper girps for it as they don't really fit. I hated the Hogue monogrip that came on it when I got it. I'll need to polish it up to really make it shine but you can see the potential this one has.

mine is the 2.5 version with the bear paws on the cylnder
I have used the 44 as my primary carry for the last few ears and I also have a 329 4 inch but i keep moving back to the backpacker
using 21 grains of 2400 and Hornaday 265 flat point it cronos out at 1265fps consistently
That unfluted cylinder really makes it happen and the empties slide right out
I have used that load all the way up to a griz in Alaska that i had interrupted his dinner on my moose. I think his dinner plans included me for dessert A hunting tip never leave your rifle in the truck in bear country so you can carry more meat the next trip the 44 slugs were located on the back side just under the pelt he took all 6 rounds.

That's a sweetheart.
I need a 3"gun, and that's the configuration I want.
You where lucky to find it.
Let us know how it shoots

Awesome looking revolver pj151!! That's my ideal 3 incher. I've never owned one, but now I've got the itch!

I look forward to some "after" pics too. Since I can't imagine it looking much better.

Not a huge fan of polished revolvers myself but I really like the unfluted cylinder look and a 3" revolver is on the top of my wanna get guns.

That looks as amazing as it is..the 44mag..nothing practical can compete with it. Yes there is the SW 500 but show me one that is blued without MIM and IL..I rest my case.

I like it VERY much, but would love to have one w/o the ports.

As I don't have a 3 inch 44. I want you to know I hate you. I didn't know how bad I wanted one until you posted that. Soooo it is time to see what I have I can turn into a 3 inch 44. I have a 29-2 4 inch I bought new in the 70's that I will not part with in this life. Just kidding about that hate thing. Thanks for posting such a beautiful gun. Great find and I bet it is a fine shooter.

That's a great look'n gun fo sho. I'm normally a fan of ported barrels but in an SD gun I'm kinda afraid of them. The situation I see is the Mrs. sitting next to me in the car and some perp bust'n out the passenger side window. I draw my Roscoe, point it at the perp and fire a couple of rounds and when I do the flame shoots out of the port and does a real number on the face of the Mrs. Uhhhhhhhhh............I'd probably have to put that bottle of Viagra in the fridge to keep it from going stale before I'd need it again!:(

pj151:

Greetings. I am new to the forum and still trying to figure out how everything works; here is hoping I am within the acceptable boundaries. It sounds like you have had a number of S&W 3" revolvers, so I hope you don't mind my asking your opinion on whether I should consider the purchase of a S&W 629 Jovino and if so, what is a reasonable price or range of value for a Jovino in excellent condition. Any comments you might have will be greatly appreciated.

Rick
