Quadrotriticale

All this talk of grains and bread just made me thirsty.

I prefer my grain in liquid form
......

And it's completely GLUTEN-FREE!!!

Whiskey is distilled from wheat, rye and barley, but there is no possible way for the gluten protein to survive distillation. However, with cheap blends and some foreign stuff where gluten-based caramel color is used and additives are legal, that can be enough to affect some celiac patients.

There you go: Another reason to stick to straight bourbon and other good stuff. No reason not to anyways, unless you just want to get drunk :).

I've had a couple of gluten free beers before. I'll continue to run the risk of developing Celiac and only partake in gluten free as a last resort.

Probably Star Trek and its "The Trouble with Tribbles" episode.

But why anyone should care about any of this, other than it maybe being an answer to a question in Trivial Pursuit, is beyond me.

No probably about it--it IS Star Trek-The Trouble With Tribbles episode--and was partially used again (the TWT episode) in an episode of a later Trek series-the one that starred the black guy (sorry-cant think of his name off-hand? but a likable actor.

I was watching a show on PBS a while back about diets they said wheat and multi grain breads were no better for you than white bread, they said they only bread to eat was rye, I like two slices of rye as long as it has corned beef in between.:)

IF you can find some? there is a healthy bread for sale--made of only 5 ingredients. I saw
(and bought some) when I sawit for sale at a place called either Trader Ricks?? or Trader Joes? and it wasnt half bad--expensive but-not bad. They also sold either 5 ingredient Tortillias--or flat bread--I forget which? and I had some of that too.

I believe one thing is for sure. Too much sweets and too much refined white flour ain't good for any of us. Add to that the preservatives to keep the stuff from goin' bad any time soon and it really gets worse. The truth is that too much of anything ain't good for us. Moderation in all things is good for us. These days, we eat stuff with all the good stuff refined out of 'em, and we eat ready to eat processed foods that contain way to much sweet with vitamins and minerals (if any) added synthetically instead of coming from whole foods. There doesn't seem to be much doubt that the high fructose corn syrup in most things these days does not play well with our body's natural mechanisms that deal with blood sugar. And all the low fat stuff has added salt and sweetening to make it taste decent enough so we will eat it. No real food value there ...

We ought to be careful how much fat we eat and we ought to be careful about the amount of salt and sugar we eat. But most of the really nasty stuff is the artificial sweeteners that so much of what we eat and drink has in it that really does cause real health problems, especially with blood sugar and insulin production in our bodies.

My biggest problem is that I still think I need to eat the same amount of good food that I used to eat when I worked hard for a living!!! Like I said, too much of anything, even the good stuff, ain't good for me! And a lot of stuff today in any amount ain't good for us or the rats and mice either!! And at the head of that list, as far as I am concerned, is any of the various artificially sweetened sody pops that everbody drinks from morning till way after bedtime!!!

No gluten or whole grains now for many years after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis-almost died in 2007. Prayer-diet modification and pro biotics every day- I have been symptom free now for many yeas thank you Jesus.

Man manipulating nature might be the destruction of us all one of these days.

There is no "might" to it.

We humans have been destroying our planet almost from the time of creation. It's worse now than it's ever been.

I actually don't know which is worse. The fact that we've been so stupid in our treatment of nature and the environment, or the fact that so many people are so blind that they can't see what we've done, and continue to do, to our home.

Some plants actually produce a poison that will keep competing plants from growing in their immediate vicinity. I work for a company that has isolated the gene that works to produce the poison that reduces competition. That gene is spliced into the gene sequence of different plants (wheat, soy, sugar beet, corn to name a few) to make them "more productive" to the farmers by needing less weeding. The companies do so little research into what that poison will do to the human body so that they can tell the public and the FDA that it is safe. The FDA is basically funded by the large, mega corporations that control most of our food supply that the FDA does not question their methods or results. But only time will tell! What is suspect is that other research has shown that that gene splicing and , to add to the furor, the use of Round-up has poisoned our food supply ( did you know that round-up is used to kill a whole field of wheat plant so a whole field's harvest can be used ) Some point to the increased instances of cancer, linked to the time GMO foods and the use of round-up came about. There is gobs of research out there that supports this theory and gobs of evidence published by the mega-corps that point the other direction. It is up to each and every one of us to do the research and make up his own mind how he should handle this situation.
