Is there a difference or preference between the yellow and blue followers? My inquiry is specifically about performance center marked magazines.

Comparing the ones I own. Just the color is different. Yellow follower's are early production. Blue is later.
I think its mostly time difference - my Shorty 40 dated 10-93 came with 2 PC marked 9rd yellow follower mags. My Shorty 40 Mk 3 dated 4-95 came with 2 PC marked 9rd blue follower + 1 11rd PC marked blue follower (with plastic adapter on base to accommodate the 11rd mag).

I checked all of mine and I see no difference. That includes mags that came with red bases. As I recall, the .45 magazines went to a yellow follower when they added the notch in the mag body to prevent rounds from working forward during firing. However, all of my Shorty .40 mags have the notch, regardless of follower.
