I got my motorcycle license the end of September last year and only rode for a couple weeks before I put my bike up for the winter. As the riding season gets closer I'm getting anxious to get out there and rack up some miles!

My question is, what do you riders usually carry for ccw on your bikes and where do you carry it?

I've always carried revolvers on my strong side hip for ccw, but I'm thinking if I take a dive and land on the revolver it's really going to hurt. My thinking is to start carrying a semi when I'm riding as the flat sides will leave less bulk to dig in if I hit the pavement, but I'm unsure where to carry it.

Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated, and thank you for your responses!

Well its been decades since I sold my last bike. When I did ride I carried in a Bianchi shoulder holster. My carry guns back then were a Model 39 and a Model 60.

Made it threw a lot of "vechicle checks" the kind were a bunch of cops stop traffic and do a quick check on everything that came by. Carried weapon was never noticed.

I had a few close calls but luckily never hit the ground!

A while back I was attending a Blues Concert at the Madrid, NM Ballpark.
We were sitting in the infield and I saw what appeared to be a group of Bikers.
One of them was exercising his NM right to open carry.
It appeared to be a Glock 17.
A young guy who had been in the sales booth appeared wearing a Security Tee Shirt.
They had a discussion and the Biker left, later returning without his piece.
Don’t know where he parked it.
I hope he had a really good hard box on his scooter.
Later when we departed I saw the young guy back in the sales booth selling tees and CDs.

I have 3 methods of carry, none are on my waist (sort of). Pocket, small fanny pack (worn in front) and a kangaroo carry (shoulderish). I will never draw a firearm mounted on my motorcycle. In fight or flight scenario flight on a motorcycle is just too easy (for me)…

I have 100s of thousands of miles on two wheels. I've always carried a J-Frame AIWB, 640, 60, 642, 638.
Normally wear a TourMaster LE, high wasted jacket or vest.

As Adk.IBO stated, I'd never draw mounted .

I have a Hein Gericke leather jacket that has a quick zip, exterior cross-draw pocket.

Just about perfect for quickly getting to my J Frame, even wearing gloves.

It is a stop-gap until I can get to my full size auto loader located on the bike.

If I were to take a tumble there's plenty of leather surrounding the pistol for protection.

And yes, you will eventually take a tumble. I've logged in over 250,000 motorcycle miles.

A lot of my riding is off road, where a tumble is more likely, and at the same time less consequential than on pavement. Nevertheless, I don’t like to have hard objects on my person, even a pocket knife. All that stuff goes in a tank bag or tank pannier, including a gun if I carry one, which I do only occasionally.

The first question would be, What will you be wearing? My preference for long distance is a sport touring type bike. My lower back doesn't like cruisers. Weather permitting, I like to wear a protective riding outfit with built in protection. My ccw preference in those conditions is a thin single stack semi in the inside chest pocket. I was particularly fond of my Keltec PF9 with it's long heavy trigger pull. I don't think I've ever had a misfire of any kind with it. Without the long heavy trigger I'd definately want a safety. On days too hot to dress for riding safety I'll lose the riding pants but will still be a riding jacket but stripped of the liner and most protection so a thin semi will still work in the inside chest pocket.

For bebopping around town it's usually a dual sport. In the FL heat it's an unlined jean jacket at the most. I generally go AIWB with a small semi but not necessairly a slim single stack.

In many areas this is the best time for bike trips. Still cool enough that you can dress for riding safety. I'd much rather be a bit chilly. You can easily dress so that the mid thirties is a very nice riding temp.

I have a fairly heavy cowhide riding jacket with a zip out liner for cooler temps, an unlined leather, armored jacket, and a mesh, armored riding jacket with a zip out liner for hotter weather. This and kevlar lined jeans, also a top notch helmet with good boots and gloves. So I think I'm pretty well protected.
Up to this point the only thing I have had in my pockets is my wallet, no keys, pocket knives or anything. All my riding last fall was done on a Kawasaki KLX300 dual sport close to home, but this winter I picked up a 2022 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom cruiser the dealer had as a leftover at a great price so I will be branching out and getting further from home this season. This means I will want to carry more of the usual pocket gear.

Most of the leather jackets have an inside chest pocket that zipped or snapped. Denim jackets also have that same pocket minus the zipper or snap. I'd just put a snap on if I needed one.

When I rode I wore a leather vest which had interior gun pockets on both sides. Swallowed everything up to a full size 1911. It was a dedicated gun vest with elastic that kept the gun from shifting around. My leather jacket was a Langlitz with a gun pocket.

I used to always use ankle carry. Having the unfortunate experience of crashes on the street, that proved to be the best compromise of accessibility, riding comfort, and least likely to cause an injury that I could come up with. I now have moved to a shoulder holster. I haven't wrecked with that YET, but it doesn't seem to be one of the places my riding gear has taken damage.

First off, regardless of what you carry, if you hit something hard enough it's going to hurt. For more than to the local grocery store and back, I recommend a vest with an inner pocket because it will keep if off of your hip when seated on your bike and generally more accessible and more comfortable if you typically carry IWB. They are good by themselves even on a hot day or under a heavier outer layer on colder days.

Here are two I own:

Hope this helps.

I started riding when I was 12, now 67. I wear all the gear all the time-armored jacket of one sort or another, boots, gloves, Kevlar jeans, helmet. Have had 2 street accidents where I went down, minor injuries both times.

I always use the interior pocket of my jackets until I’m off the bike and transition to an iwb holster (out of public view of course).

I also use the interior pocket of my vest if I'm wearing one. Most times I put it. my wallet and phone in the saddlebag of my Road King. Most of my holsters don't have retention straps and I would fear dropping it. And realistically what's the chances of being able shoot from a motorcycle? Its not like you can hold the reins in your mouth.
On second thought, you can shoot off of any bike one time.
