Question for NY gunowners

well i am confuse but getting old a few drugs,,,,including .22,,,does that mean the tube rifles also,,,been eyeing any of the tube that shoot short, longs and long rifle for a while and there capacity depend on the round you use...i don't live in NY but went to a couple yr hi school there.

The quotes I have seen say detachable magazines! that lets out your .22 (and my 50 YO Browning take down)

they do mention assault shotguns specifically and that starts at an 8 round semi auto. Get this heat shields are a bad thing and count as an item towards a gun being put on the bad list:rolleyes:

So . . . Browning BAR's and the Remington hunting rifles (7400, 750, etc.) are now "scary assault weapons" and need to registered as such, correct?

Good intentions sometimes produce a disastrous effect. The Republicans had for many years, except for a brief period controlled the state Senate. Two years ago, 4 Republican state Senators voted with the Dems to legalize gay marraige in NY. Those 4 were targeted for defeat by certain conservative groups, rightly or wrongly. 3 of them lost their seats to Democrats, and the state Senate flipped to Democrat control. The Dems in the state Assembly have been passing bad gun bills for years but couldn't get them thru the Senate. What you saw the other day is the result of shooting yourself in the foot.
Admittedly 12 Republicans Senators voted badly this time, with the banners. I will never give another penny to the NYS Republican party, and have told them as much.
There's no fight left in me, as soon as some personal issues get resolved I'm gone. Where? Don't know yet waiting to see which states fight the good fight.

We had a similar situation about a dozen years ago here in the Peoples' Republic of Maryland. A conservative Democrat, one whose rural Eastern Shore district was mostly Republican, chaired the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, which hears gun legislation in the Maryland Senate. He had been a staunch 2A supporter for years, but caved on one gun bill and voted with the antis, so he was targeted for defeat.

A good pro-gun Republican defeated him and took his seat...but the Chairmanship of the Judicial Proceedings Committee went to a far left anti-gun Democrat from the Washington suburbs, who holds it to this day. This Chairman will not let pro-gun bills get a fair hearing, and actively sponsors and promotes anti-gun measures.

Politics is like a chess game, where you have to think several moves ahead at any given time. A lot of pro-gun folks, sadly, don't seem to be able to do that, with predictable results.

Where to hell did they come up with a seven round mag rule. Maybe too many Bond movies.

My guess would be the 1911. Originally 7 rounds. Brilliant on the part of NY. This makes nearly all semi-autos either illegal or magazine-less and thus worthless. I doubt any gun manufacturers will make 7-round magazine versions IF New York is the only state to pass a ban on any magazines great than 7 rounds. This sure make revolvers a lot more attractive, as well as pumps, bolts, and lever-action long guns.

The 7 rd rule supposedly comes from the 'failure' of earlier magazine bans in that they did little to make it easy to distinguish between a pre-ban and a post-ban mfg'r amgazine.
Since almost no one makes a 7-round magazine for anything,,a 7 rd magazine will instantly be seen as a NY post 2013 ban magazine.
They're logic...

Of course since they already forced NY'ers to buy 10rd magazines for everything new since 1994, they were faced with how do we compensate them for those or collect them ect.
Since they are 'only 10 rd',,telling the law abiding to stuff them w/ 7 was their solution and it seems to have made even the most anti of legislators OK with the law.

Of course along with that,,anything over 10rd must be gone within 1 yr.

One small loophole for so called 'curio and relic' h/c magazines (over 50yrs old),,but if you read the new law,,it says you have to Register that magazine with the NYSP.,,and 'unregister it' if you sell it or otherwise dispose of it.

So there's no free ride.

don't give NY politicians so much credit, they probably stumbled on the 7 rd limit while drinking 7 and 7

Nope...political cynicism at its worst. They know that many common firearms use ten round mags, and that there are no lower capacity mags available. So making those mags illegal effectively bans the firearm.

Make no mistake about it: This is not a magazine ban, it is a gun ban. How this is consistent with the Second Amendment is beyond me. :-(

Sounds like the Second Amendmet was banned in NY long ago

This law was pushed through so fast that there are gun shop owners calling the State Police, whom Cuomo has put in charge concerning enforcement, and there is no one to answer the phone!
There are some counties in NY that require you to buy a handgun as you put in paperwork for your permit. This can take up to a year after you file. So people have paid for a pistol that has a 10 round mag and the gun is at their LGS. No one can tell if it's a legal purchase as the 7 round stipulation in the new law is in effect immediately. There's no one set up to answer these questions!
Fred Dicker , a New York Post Editor, brought up a good point last night on a local TV station. He asked what the state will do when hundreds on thousands of now legal gun owners refuse to comply with the military style rifle registration? Will the State Police visit each home? I don't think so. Mr Dickers was also very critical of how this legislation was pushed through in the dark of night and apparently with 20 minutes to read it!
Although I am terribly disappointed about this legislation the more I here about a resistance to comply and a petition started by Senator Marchione to repeal parts of this law the more hope I have. I'm praying that Gov. Cuomo and Assemblyman Silver may have just expierenced premature legislation.
Please pray for us and anyone who has not signed Senator Marchione's petition should do so on her website. It's at
Kathleen A. Marchione | New York State Senate

This is a time every law abiding gun owner HAS to become vocal. Even you people in the free states. We all need your help!

Thanks,
Len

I have to believe an enterprising machinist with some talent will be cranking out 7 round magazines by the end of the week.

NYS police have posted a "preliminary list" , subject to additions  on their website

Interesting, they listed BOHICA firearms ;)

The folks at that company must have a crystal ball, its just such a fitting name in this time

Remington employees were in Albany to talk to their legislative representatives, supposedly they were not allowed to meet with them.
Remington builds the Bushmaster in Ilion, those people will soon be out of work.

This is precisely the IDIOCY, LUNACY AND HYPOCRISY OF THE LEFT.

They base their decision on pure EMOTION and not on reason and facts.
How DISGUSTING AND REVOLTING THAT A MINORITY OF LEFTIST STATISTS THINK THEY KNOW WHAT'S BEST FOR THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.

STAND UP AND BE RECOGNIZED PATRIOTS!

We moved from NY to SC about 15 years ago. Reading about the new laws absolutly makes me want to gag. Talk about a knee jerk reaction. We make the trip to NY once or twice a year-have family and friends there. I am literally ready to kiss the ground when we get back to SC. Southern hospitality is a wonderful thing, once you spend a few years here you get so used to it you stop saying things like "did that guy in the supermarket really tell me to have a nice day? In NY they don't even acknowledge you are there. I got my CCW several years ago, you have to take an 8 hour class and pass a shooting test and then in a few weeks you permit arrives. Buying a hand gun in SC is simple. Go the the store pick one out and walk out with it. A background check is required if you do not have a CCW. In SC a CCW is proof you are not a bad guy. I feel sorry for you folks up in NY. Hopefully we will have many more ex NYorkers down here before long.

Never forget that Civil Disobedience has value. While business owners may be forced to stop selling prohibited items, those who currently own such items should be somewhat invisible, thus at least temporarily protected against confiscation. If No One volunteers to turn in a prohibited item, the government may have to rethink its position. I think it can be assumed that injunctions will be forthcoming and the courts will have to deal with the issues for years, hopefully finding that the new law is flawed. One way or the other, this draconian NY law will be the "straw that breaks the camel's back." Residents who are pro-gun or pro-Constitution need to identify each legislator who signed on to the law and vote them OUT...one by one. This isn't just about the 2A...it's about all the rights afforded in the Constitution. Our dumbed down citizens need to learn that. I'd bet that there isn't a grade school anywhere that teaches a class on the Constitution and what it means to a nation and its people.
