I'd try both if possible. I've used both and you might just get along better with one or the other. With those two options, however, I would actually lean toward the Sig.

Try the Sig on for size. If you like it better than the Smith then swap. The 365 series seems to be selling very well. Have a number of friends who have gone that route and are quite happy with them. I'm not sure one is dramatically better than the other.

When I decided that I wanted a nine of that flavor I had not yet made up my mind which one. Amazingly, when I went to my LGS they had a display consisting of a P365, a Max 9, a M&P Shield, a Hellcat and a Glock 43.

I spent a half hour playing with all of them and finally made my choice.

I have had the Max 9 for over a year now and couldn't be more pleased with it. I guess about 600 rounds down the pipe (all handloads) and not a single malfunction. I can even hit the paper as far as 25 yards.

I have yet to add Shield to the pack…but I do have two 365s, 43 and hellcat. And they are all credible guns.

Would you trade (your model of the micro-compact M&P Shield 9mm) for a Sig P365X?

What strikes you sa special about the p365X the extra rounds in the mag and if so what's wrong with the shield plus model ?? .

What did you expect here , this is a s&w forum . Some folks always will like other brands but feed back will be mainly for the "house " brand !!

Do your own research , handle both and then try to shot both if you can and then make your own choice . I will say even my 5-2 68 year old wife still loves how her p365xl shots but the wilson grip make it feel far better in her hand . Since the big difference to me between the sig and the shield is capacity sooooo maybe you should check out the shield plus also as the P365 will cost you more ?

I have an Equalizer, not a Shield, and I would not trade it for a P365. I do have a P320 M17 that I like, though. It has a Wilson Combat grip frame. If I was going to go the P365 route I would get the WC frame for it also.

Opinions on firearms is a very subjective thing. You really need to rent (borrow a friend's / try one that someone is using at the range) a 365 and see how you like shooting it, rather than asking our opinion.

I've had my Shield for 11Yrs and tried the 365 a few times. To ME, the 365 (and G43/48) feel a bit snappier than the Shield variants. While they all feel great to fondle at the counter, one really needs to experience how they feel to shoot.

My Shield is a 1.0. Can't turn my Shield into a Shield Plus. Can change the 365X into an XL or any other 365 variant without .gov involvement.

I too own a V1.0 Shield and a P365. As you said the flexibility of the Sig does add to it's value. I just changed the grip to the X size. This makes it a 12+ 1 plus 1/2" longer grip. I carried the Shield for four years before the 365 but I always felt the grip was to narrow. I use it as my tractor gun now.

I do like SIGs, but only have larger versions...P320 X5 Legion and P226 SAO Legion. Love them both and those flat triggers! However, my CCW is an M&P 9mm PC Shield Plus. Wouldn't trade it for a 365X.

I did. And would do it again, over and over. The 365 is a wonderful little gun. I got the standard 365 with a couple 12 rd. mags and have been carrying it for 4 years now. Has never let me down and puts them where I want them at 25 yds. I gave the Shield to my daughter for the house, but she quickly traded it for a Ruger Security 9.

I have both plus a Hellcat OSP and all have a place in my EDC rotation for their specific purpose. All 3 shoot well for me and I wouldn't trade or sell them. Looking to add the new Romeo X Compact optic to my Sig. I like having the choices all of them afford. Get and carry the one(s) you shoot best. Train, Practice, Shoot...Repeat.

My only Sig is an old 225. I had a Shield but traded it for a bicycle. Didn't care for it. I have no opinion on your trade except my experience with the Shield.

If you are open to other suggestions, take a look at the Taurus GX4. Taurus gets a lot of hate for QC problems in the past. I have a Hellcat Pro, Glocks 43X, 48, 19, 19X. I carry the GX4 and bought another one for my wife. Both have been flawless out of the box. Put on night sights but otherwise running them stock.

That small p365 grip is why wilson came out with a larger circumference grip module and sigs own 17 round grip makes it easy for most man hands and many womens to fit well.

Would you trade (your model of the micro-compact M&P Shield 9mm) for a Sig P365X?

I've become very negative on S&W after the long list of problems I've had with my Shield Plus Performance Center. I've had huge problems with their customer service and also their repair department. Currently the Shield Plus is on its way back to S&W for a 4th time. I no longer can recommend S&W over any other brand.

There are several things about the P365 that I do like.

With that said, the answer to your question is a firm no, I would not trade my M&P Shield for any variant of the Sig P365.

Reasons:

1. The P365 has an even smaller grip circumference than the M&P Shield. My hands and my extra high grip style basically swallow either gun.The larger grip of the Shield Plus versus the Shield 2.0 is the primary reason why I purchased the Plus when I already have a 2.0. I definitely can shoot the P365 very well, but I can shoot the Shield Plus faster while still being accurate.

2. I have way too much muscle memory with the M&P Shield pistols, especially when it comes to deactivating the manual saftey after drawing, a feature I insist on for a CCW.

3. I have too much money invested in holsters and accessories for the M&P Shield.

Now that I've had an issue with the saftey plunger not resetting correctly in my Shield Plus and because I've seen video on Facebook from others with the same problem, I'm no longer convinced the Shield has an actual saftey advantage over the P365.

Despite that, I have not heard of a case where a true and definitive uncommanded discharge has taken place with a P365 or a Shield.

The uncommanded discharges of the Sig P320, in my eyes, damages the Sig Sauer brand so badly that it would be difficult for me to give them my money. Those issues demonstrate the real need for an inertial safety dingus in the trigger with a striker fired gun. It also calls into question the saftey and reliability of the whole modular FCU concept, especially with a sear that's located at the very back of a slide, right underneath the back plate. I believe the various uncommanded discharges of the P320 have taken place over the years due to several issues in the design and not because of one issue.

I dont care about modularity, guns are not Legos. It appears that making a handgun "modular" increases the complexity of the fire control unit and leaves room for more things to go wrong with quality control issues.

As far as internal mechanisms go, I believe S&W has the best design, however they're currently failing at QC in a major way.

Because of S&W's QC issues, poor customer service, and problems in their repair department, it's also hard to give them my money going forward.

The "perfect" micro 9mm CCW still doesn't exist.

I've had 3 different Shields over the past 5 years or so. One was mildly problematic, but the other two ran like champs. Would I like to try, maybe even to have a P365 of some flavor? You bet. Would I trade my Shield Plus for one? Nope, not a chance.
