I don't know a lot about the S&W automatics but I have found a S&W model 39 no dash nickel in original box for sale for $1400. 98% gun, Serial # 87571 with walnut grips. In the SCSW, there is no mention of a nickel no dash gun.

I have never seen one of these and my question is - Are the no dash guns in nickel that common and what is your opinion on value? It is listed as C&R eligible.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The 39 in nickel is not that common and I have only seen 3 of them for sale in the last 10 years, one being a 4 digit serial number which I bought. The other 2 were 5 digit serial numbers of which I bought one of them. They are C&R eligible. As far as price, $1400 is on the high side even with the box (any tools or paperwork?). It always gets back to what's it worth to you? The one you posted is in great condition.

WOW! steel frame nickel. Have seen a few nic. mod-39s but none in steel.
Is the seller a known dealer? Ask him to do the magnet test on the frame and see if there is an N stamped on the left grip frame. Maybe. Or get an inspection period. Or, roll the dice and take a chance. PM me later, we will talk. Mike

If that is an original nickle with steel frame that price might not be that far off. Of course the real question is what is it worth to you. I have bought a few guns above the average selling price, because, either I never see them for sale in my neck of the woods, or it was something I wanted. They way I see it it balances its self out, as I have bought plenty enough below market value to "allow" myself to splurge every so often.

A Model 39 with box, nickel plated for $1400? Assuming it is a factory plating, I think that price is still high. Around here, that would have a $1000 price tag and might sit for quite a while.

A nickel Model 39 no dash in that serial number range is not common.
That price is well within it's value range. If it's a steel frame, (I am not sure there were any nickel steel frames) it would be a steal. Any blued steel frame Model 39 is going for north of $2K now if it's in decent condition and that is pistol only. If it's a re-nickeled steal frame than I have no idea of value.

Thank all of you for your input. It does have all paperwork, tools, etc. I will do a little more research on it and let ya'll know.According to the SCSW, the serial numberdoes not fall within the steel frame range.
Thanks again and have a Blessed Day!

Hey mbliss, did you pick up on that bad pic, that the slide lever and safety are plated? The box appears to be a pre-Bangor, silver box. But no label pic? Mike

Following this thread... since I have a mint in the box 39-2 nickle … I'd entertain selling it for the right price, but I am still unclear, was the RIA gun a 39 or 39-2 .. at $2300
