Question? Should Gun Stores Require NRA Memberships For Purchases?

I can see it now...

Hi, I'm new to guns and would like to make my first gun purchase. Would you mind helping me out?

Oh... You won't sell to me because I'm not an NRA member?.....

Hmmm. No.

I guess trying to coerce people to join the NRA is not a good idea.

I too don't agree with everything the NRA says and does. But the plain truth is we wouldn't have the freedom we have today without the NRA and without strength we won't have this freedom much longer. If you are not a member I would ask why not? Is it the cost to join ($30)? If so you are planning on riding along while someone else pays. If you truly have a disagreement with NRA policies then ask yourself if your gun rights are more or less important than this disagreement.

I would point out the purpose of the 2nd amendment was to protect us from tyranny. It wasn't to allow us recreational shooting sports, nor for acquiring a collection, not even for hunting although in England the forests belonged to the King and common folk were forbidden to hunt there. The purpose was so one day a tyrant would think twice about taking over control of the government. To that end, allowing the government to ban AR-15s makes no sense especially since most gun crime is with handguns.

In the last THREE years my LGS.... JUST BY ASKING at the END of the sale...At the NRA discount of $25.00 per year, signed up 10,000 NEW members.. and was named Dealer Recruiter of the year 3 years in a row.. and Honored as such at the last three NRA Board of Directors meeting in Washington D.C...

The point here is there is no need to force anyone.. but each individual or Gun Merchant can make a difference just by asking and pointing out the obvious benefits..:D

Which one is Oliie? :D

The only reason I don't have a life time membership is the fact that I don't want to be a member of an organization who might not support my views in the future. Right now the NRA supports those but what if suddenly they go for gun bans? Well I would be supporting those indirectly as life time member of that organization. Therefore I prefer renewing my membership every year as long as that organization shares my thoughts.
Requiring the membership in a organization which is political active should never be mandatory

You're kidding right? I mean, you just thought you'd throw that out to get a rise out of everybody. Right?

That idea is almost as bad as Obamacare!! We're going to make citizens join the NRA if they want to exercise their Second Amendment right.

Hey, wait a minute...why don't we just make a rule that people have to join a certain political party if they want to purchase a firearm?

Don't get me wrong. I certainly support the NRA. I'm a Life Member. But it's not right to make people join in order to purchase a firearm.

One of Our LGS..........

gives $5 off the price of the gun if you are an NRA member. They have a big display board & pamphlets every where in the store.

You da man:eek:

To answer your original question, no, even those of us who are too dumb or too cheap to join the only pro gun organization/lobby group that has any clout in Washington should be allowed to purchase our guns at the same price as those who recognize the threat to our freedoms.

Very Bad Idea. Never force people to buy anything.

NRA represents Citizen Rights.

You force people to buy their membership, You do a few things:
1: You make them resent the NRA
2: YOu make them resent the gun shop
3: You de-value the whole idea of NRA

Forcing people to have a Membership only would make the cause as bad as what the NRA is fighting.

If someone owns a gun and does not find value of what the NRA represents, then we do not need them, there is no use for them, and it isn't all about the money, it is about being passionate and believing in the NRA and cause. and the last thing we want is to force them to buy in.

What a small world, about 35 years ago I took out a loan in the North End in Boston. I paid it back every Friday, the loan officer would come to my house to pick it up (Sort of a reverse drive through).

That sure looks like the him, and I must say I was never late with a payment.

Sometimes I have HUA, "CONGRATULATIONS"

No. It's a political-action group. The OP's objective is reasonable though. I just don't agree with the method.
