I don't know why it took me so long to replace my modified golf gloves that were never seen again after I moved. Bought me some more and problem solved. My skin is getting really thin and it was hurting when I gripped the serrations on the slide. Now maybe I can shoot it enough to actually get it broken in.
My deceased son-in-law had a Sig Compact Carry Elite .45 that had probably less than 50 rounds through it. It racks easier that the 9mm Shield. My daughter went to the range with it today and I am anxious to hear her report. I had some medical problems and didn't get to go.

I have a couple of Sigs and they do rack easier than several guns I have tried.

The slide racking on the Shield is one of the reasons I did not recommend it to my Mom who has arthritis.

When I first got the Shield 45 it was darn near impossible to lock back the slide. After leaving it on the shelf with the slide locked back for a few days it was easier. I've never had a gun that hard. It's fine now with about a thousand rounds through it.

I installed the SS replacement guide rod and the slide on my Shield 2.0 is now very easy to rack and is quite smooth.
I don't mean to start another controversy. Just the facts....

Tried the SSGuide Rod with spring, didnt work for the wife.

While this helps greatly with the racking and locking the slide back type issues that the weaker handed may experience, we determined that my wifes wrists were not strong enough to back the recoil properly and she went from -0- failures to a 50% failure rate on FTL's sooooo back in went the OEM spring that provides more pressure to return the slide to battery.

I WOULD state however that it worked perfectly for me with no problems at all.

I went through the racking the slide issue with my wife. She has strength issues in her hands due to arthritis, and simply can't rack most autoloaders. She finally settled on a revolver, but I recently bought a Ruger SR1911-9MM Target. Its the new full size, all steel 9mm. It is very easy to rack, and recoil is very light. She likes it, and can operate it easily. Shes staying with her revolver, but the 9mm 1911 is an option

GT-5000 grip tape on the front of both sides of the slide really helps me rack slides. neuropathy in left hand is a handicap. i have put the grip tape on a number of pistols with good results. very inexpensive.
