Randall knlife song

Guy Clark has a really good song about a Randall knife. On utube.

OK, now the OP has a job. Haunt all gun and knife shows, or just knife shows looking for a well used Randall. Part of the negotiating game involves pointing out all the scuffs and even the poor sharpening skills used in the past. If you can cheat the seller down, good. Then either use the worn one with out any worries, or send it back to the Randall Shop to be refinished to like new condition. Then put it away out of fear of maybe scratching it again. :(

Here's an excellent video about a Model 14, one of my favorite Randalls.

The guy can make excellent videos and you can see the detail in workmanship and polish here. But his field test consists of chopping wood, a job better reserved for a hatchet or axe, maybe a machete.

I was very fond of my Model 14, which I had to sell, along with some other items, while out of a job. My son took his to Iraq, but some other soldier borrowed it and mysteriously lost it when they had to scramble to assist a unit under fire. I gave him a nice Fallkniven to replace it, but he was by then leery of carrying a really nice knife, so he left it at home and took a Marine Ka-Bar instead on his next tour.

I think the sheath on the knife in the video may have been polished or waxed. It has a little more gloss than I recall seeing as the knives are supplied. It looks really nice.

The Model 14 is especially popular with soldiers, but makes a fine survival knife. I do prefer the stainless blade option.

I can remember when, I think it was Argosy magazine, ran a story about Randall knives and how they were chosen to be the knives that were supplied to the original Mercury astronauts as their survival knife. Great knives and really kool that they were picked to be the first knives in space.

will be guttin many hogs with this one.
Model 1 with fossilized ivory.

I as of yet do not own a Randell. Seen a couple at the shows but have been reluctant...or to cheep to buy one. If i saw that beautiful knife with that fossilized ivory on it i am sure i would come home with it.

What year would you think that is? The knife, not the ivory, lol

Randall's are normally "aged" by the size and number
of spacer's used. (bands just up from the hilt)
Age of the knife is unknown to me because whoever
ordered this blade requested brass spacer's.

What grade steel is used in these? Everything I have read is 440b which is extremely disappointing for the price

I agree, but they say 440B works better in the forge for them than does 440C. Neither is considered a super steel today.

The non stainless blades are 01.

Steels aside, most users agree that Randall knives perform well.

The astronauts thought enough of those knives, Model 17 Astro, that they discussed them in their book, We Seven.

The original handle color was tan Micarta.

Now that's what I'm talking about I love Randall made knifes my favorite is my 26 pathfinder I hade a 25 trapper but it was stolen someday a 27 trailblazer may be mine. Widow

Its a flaw in your character. How do you expect us to honor you when you've neglected such an easy to remedy problem? Just get with the program, go to knife and gun shows until you see one and then make it yours. Every show I attend, I look for a really nice one, or one underpriced. Then it goes home with me, thence to the dungeon where it never again see's the light of day. With a few exceptions. Two travel with us in case I'm attacked by an over size Filet. I generally don't attend knife fights, because I carry a gun. But I've got a knife with me.
