Here's an excellent video about a Model 14, one of my favorite Randalls.
The guy can make excellent videos and you can see the detail in workmanship and polish here. But his field test consists of chopping wood, a job better reserved for a hatchet or axe, maybe a machete.
I was very fond of my Model 14, which I had to sell, along with some other items, while out of a job. My son took his to Iraq, but some other soldier borrowed it and mysteriously lost it when they had to scramble to assist a unit under fire. I gave him a nice Fallkniven to replace it, but he was by then leery of carrying a really nice knife, so he left it at home and took a Marine Ka-Bar instead on his next tour.
I think the sheath on the knife in the video may have been polished or waxed. It has a little more gloss than I recall seeing as the knives are supplied. It looks really nice.
The Model 14 is especially popular with soldiers, but makes a fine survival knife. I do prefer the stainless blade option.
