Random Object Photographs

Feb. 29th, 1968, Tet Offensive, Song Be, Viet Nam.

C-130 hit by small arms fire by Viet Cong (VC) or North Vietnamese Army (NVA) taking off. Everyone got off, but there was no way, to be able to fight the fire.

A couple sets of dominoes that both came from family. My paternal grandfather was a woodworker who worked in the Brownsville shipyards during WWII. In the garage I still have the "toolkit" he carried to and from work. It is wooden, about 4ft long by 1.5ft tall and 1ft thick with the top and top front folding back for access. He made the hardwood dominoes and the wooden slide top case. Little touches, like the tack he put on the inside of the lid to keep it from sliding open by itself were a hallmark of his work.

The other set is ivory and came from Mom's side of the family. I hope I can get some of my sister's kids/grandkids interested in playing so I can pass them down. I especially want to keep the wooden set in the family.

I expect that the ivory may bring a pretty penny down the line.

Wheat paste artist

Wheat paste "street art" like this began showing up, usually on derelict structures across the Navajo Nation a decade or more ago. The artist was unknown for a long time, but finally revealed to be a Dr. Chip Thomas; a physician who'd worked on the rez for many years. There are now several places to look at his ephemeral works online. This one is off highway 89A on the way to Page, AZ.

How about the staging area for the new natural gas pipeline going across Indiana & Westmoreland Counties in PA.Drone photo by my friend David Chaek.

Epoxy coated gas pipe has made a much better coating than tar wrap.

This is an excellent thread. I showed it to my wife so she could see I am not the only lunatic who takes photos of inert things.

I document hotel rooms, furniture, clothing, cars, tools, rocks, bicycles and all kinds of other random objects. My wife is bewildered that there are no people in those photos, they make absolutely no sense to her. But now I have found my clan! Oh what a laugh we got browsing this beautiful thread!
