Union Pacific Railroad's 1941 "Big Boy" #4014 puffed its way into N.E. Oklahoma yesterday on its eight-week Heartland of America Tour across nine states so the boys & I went to check it out, along with a few other locals.
Earlier in the year it visited five states on its Westward Bound Tour thru Wyoming to California.
Of the (25) made only (7) are left in various static displays across the US & just this restored example as operational making it the largest & most powerful steam locomotive still operating.
The locomotive is so long (132 ft) its frame is "hinged", or articulated, to allow it to negotiate curves.
Originally a coal burner it was converted to #5 fuel oil but it can still put out some smoke.
