Come...To The Machine

If you've ever had cataract surgery, then years later the posterior capsule becomes cloudy and hazy, a machine like this is most likely what the doctor will use on you.

After cataract surgery, and the capsule become cloudy, it breaks up the light that should reach your retina intact. This makes it look almost like your vision did before you had the cataract surgery.

The doctor uses a YAG laser. The laser passes through the front of the eye and the IOL without harming them. When the laser reaches the postrerior capsule, it makes a tiny slit that allows light to pass through to the retina, restoring your vision to post-cataract surgery clarity.

The procedure is painless and takes only a minute or two. The laser makes clicking sounds when it's firing, and you can see light flashes. Pretty cool. Modern technology, unheard of fifty years or so ago. Amazing.

Had my left eye done today. This is what I do when I'm bored and waiting in a treatment room...I make photographs of stuff.

Naxi (Nah-SHEE) Woman

In southwest China, in the northwest of Yunnan Province, there is an ethnic group of about 300,000 people called the Naxi (Nah-SHEE). They are similar to their neighbors, the Tibetans, but have a distinct culture. Although many practice Tibetan Buddhism, this exists alongside of their indigenous Dongba religion. In fact, their language is the only active hieroglyphic language in use in the world today.

I encountered this Naxi woman in Lijiang Old City. She graciously posed for this portrait.

You explained it so well, I believe you could perform the procedure yourself [emoji16]

My wife and I are in Scottsdale at the moment, we're coming home on Thursday which will be two weeks in the AZ sun. Last week we went to Monument Valley, and I took a boat-load of photos. I'll be posting most in a separate write-up when we get home. I'm doing this on my tablet, which isn't nearly as easy as my PC. Anyway, I'll go ahead and share one:

Here's a photo with enough randomness that it makes the photo. I was out with my photo buddy getting wild turkey shots and came home with many. This one I was about to ditch until I decided the randomness makes it. ;)

What are the chances you'd catch a turkey between his color change with a mosquito biting him on the head as his 3rd eyelid (nictitating membrane) covers the eye. Plus, looks like he has lips!!!

Watchdog, yes it is... MID-ATLANTIC AIR MUSEUM - THE WIDOWS WEB - P-61 - THE RESTORATION
You can see the whole story here, I may be going out to visit it tomorrow.
They have a big WWII weekend coming up in the beginning of June. ;)

I believe the P-61 Black Widow was in fact the first "stealth aircraft" designed specifically for night fighting. I remember making a Strom-Becker model of one when I was a kid, and this brings back strong memories of it.
