Just so it don’t turn out to be a baked cat!
There are those down South stories about folks serving baked cats and chaining they were Possums.
I can most likely tell a chicken from a cat,
Possum vs. cat - maybe a little tougher!

About that time, 1968-1973, while still a student, I worked part-time as a kennel boy/vet assistant. I sort of remember seeing them from way back then...

A slow Monday night at the Comet Grill.

I have a friend, Lenny Federal, whose band plays at the Comet every Friday night. You wouldn't know it by looking at this photograph, but by 9:30 p.m., it's standing room only when the band begins to play. Lenny is generally acknowledged to be one of, if not the best rock guitarist in the area.

I've been going there since the mid-eighties. It's a small intimate place...great for a casual dinner or just an evening out with friends. I'll be doing some more serious photography there soon.

This Old House

When I first saw this old house, it had a for rent sign out front. I was actually considering renting it and making it into my new photography studio. I mean, you know that old thing about not judging a book by its cover, right? It's the only house on the street...just down from a huge auto junkyard and behind a men's shelter.

Went back the next day, the for rent sign was gone, and it had brand new locks on the front door!

It's probably just as well...it isn't in the greatest part of town. But still...

The photo will enlarge if you click on it.

Engine Number 9937.

When I photographed this locomotive, I was thinking there's some serious horsepower there.

It wasn't until I started working on the photograph later that I noticed the prancing horse on the front of the engine.

As long as you don't leave it in the sun....it was all steel...except for the handle.

I like "bar shots." Here's one of my own, taken at the Crystal Palace Saloon in Tombstone, AZ. People have been going in and out of there for over well over 100 years! Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and other old west characters used to frequent this area in the bad old days. One of Wyatt's brothers was murdered just across the street in the Oriental Saloon.

This bar is a bit more modern, just down the street south of the Crystal Palace. Re-enactors abound, and it's another favorite watering hole in Tombstone.

...and this is the Saint Elmo Bar on Brewery Gulch in Bisbee, AZ. It's been around for over a century, also. They turned it into an ice cream parlor during Prohibition, but when that was over, it became a thriving place to wet one's whistle again.

Here are yours truly, my wife and a long-time friend having adult beverages at the St. Elmo during the 4th of July celebrations of '08 -

A bit more refined is this very nice bar in the Copper Queen Hotel, also in Bisbee. I've frequented the hotel (and the bar) since 1960, but they haven't yet erected a shrine to me there... The Copper Queen is the oldest continuously-operated hotel in Arizona, and my maternal grandfather (a miner in Bisbee) often spent time with friends there. And no, the guy on the right is not emulating a dog!
