Little Mushrooms

Found these growing on top of an old tree stump. They are all less than 1.5-inches tall.

Last January my wife and her two brothers inherited their parent's 14 acres after their mom and dad passed within two weeks of each other. Both brothers have lived there their entire lives, and between them and their dad, amassed a bunch of old cars, trucks, busses, boats, and machinery. I didn't keep a tally today, but in the past have counted over 70 vehicles of different types. Here are some of the more interesting ones I photo'd today:

Yeah, that first picture is outstanding.

Back in 2012 I did a lot of product testing and evaluations for ATVTV.
I was given two new Polaris ATVs that year to do long term testing.
This was one of my rides back in Jan 2012.

This was the last stretch of the road up to the old Yellow Cougar Mine.

These ice "stalagmites" were at the mine entrance.
I think they are way cool.

A closer look at them.
It was freezing in the shade but the sun was out and melting the ice and snow on the top of the mine adit and freezing when it hit the ground.

I've seen these one other time under the same circumstances in another mine in Deer Creek Canyon.

Here's looking out from just inside the mine.

All of the mining operations came to an end in 1978. The road leading to the Yellow Cougar Mine and a few others is gated.

I have a friend that has property adjacent to this property and he gave me a key to the gate.

I'll post some pictures from inside the mine a little later on.

Momma was quite proud of me back in the day.

Your picture reminds me of this one, taken at my paternal grandparent's home in Phoenix at Thanksgiving, 1942. My grandfather died the next month of kidney failure two days before Christmas. That devastated the family; the timing could not have been worse. He was only 60 years old. I have only one memory of him - he was on his death bed (probably the same day this picture was taken), and he told me he loved me. That last goodbye is still etched in my memory.

A few more pictures of the Yellow Cougar Mine.

These pictures are from May 2015 when I took two of my good friends to show them the mine.

The entrance to the mine is just about in the center of the picture.

These two trucks are still there. The blue GMC has a diesel engine on the back that runs a generator and air compressor.

They would back the orange 6X6 under this and run the ore cars out and dump the iron ore into the truck.

As you can see the tank on the front of this little rail car that it is powered by compressed air.

This is the only remaining car.

In we go.

No too far in the mine splits. The one to the left dead ends about 100 ft in.

Further in there's another tunnel behind this door.

And behind door number 1 is this cool old explosives box.

You can see the air lines that run throughout the mine. They provided compressed air for tools and the little rail car that is sitting just outside the mine adit.

Even here inside the mine you can't get away from trash.
I HATE litter bugs.

A mushroom for your hamburger? ;)

This is the end of the mine. The mine shaft goes both up and down.
The second picture is about as close to the shaft as I cared to get.

The Bat Cave.

Its always nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
