So that's what newly hatched cars look like.
Yes see them a lot on semi tankers, make sure wheels are torqued. Seen a new dump truck lose a couple wheels I40 west of Nashville ,both rolled off into the woods. I laid down on the horn he kept on haulin' , a flatbed was trying to catch him.
Yes.. Absolutely remember Freedomland! The first place I lived (in the Bronx) was on the Grand Concourse between Kingsbridge Rd and East 196th. Street. My Dad had a bakery on the Grand Concourse near Fordham Rd. To give you perspective, it was about 30 blocks (a couple of miles) North of Yankee Stadium which is on 161 St.

I went to Lehman College on Bedford Park. Played basketball for them, 6’4” Center.
My friend went to Bronx Community College, we used to hang on the Concourse and Fordham all the time.
Remember the pizza wars from the many pizza shops around Fordham and the GC?
Two slices and a soda for 15 cents, or less.
Best hotdogs in America were on Fordham across from Alexander’s. Gormans??
We used to go down to 161st and watch the Yankees play standing on the train platform.
My friend and his father owned an auto repair shop on Jerome Ave and Bedford Park. He still owns the building but rents out the space to another shop now, since his dad passed and he’s all beat up physically from decades of auto repairs.
Most of the cops in the northwest Bronx used to bring their cars to him. He never got a ticket.![]()
My friend (RIP)grew up not far from Jerome and Bedford on Villa Ave. Even after he moved to our new street a few miles up the road over the county line. We'd go back for the big annual Feast on Villa Ave. His family owned a seafood store, I forget where but near Bainbridge.
My mother and that side of the family is just up the road in Woodlawn...
That whole area is a different world today not much of the past can be found. My friend's family always said Tracey Tower killed whatever was left.
@Ladder13 are you sure we didn't know each other growing up in the Bronx? I went to Gorman's all the time... Best dogs ever... On the corner of Fordham Road was a place called Burger Pit.. best burgers, Alexander's on Fordham and GC. When my Dad owned the bakery I mentioned, he rented out the store next door to us to a family who wanted to open a pizza place. Right before they opened, they backed out, having already put in a pizza oven, a nice counter and an air conditioner. My Dad decided to keep it as a pizza place, made the dough next door in the bakery and eventually my brother helped out there. The competition was fierce and yes you got pizza slices for 15¢ and a fountain soda for a dime.
@wheelgun28 ... Your friend, who owned the seafood store, on Bainbridge avenue, was it called Cittarella's? Owned by a nice Italian family with a daughter named Grace? (Actually Graziella, when she moved here from Italy) if yes, I was Grace's first friend in school, when they came here from Italy in the late 50's or early 60's. My grandmother went every week, sometimes twice to that fish store where they had the best fish I ever ate. I always wanted to grow up in the country, but looking back, the Bronx was ok then. My best friend Phyllis, born 3 months before me, who grew up in the same building on the GC as me, is still my best friend 67 years later. My husband grew up in the east Bronx, though we didn't meet until I was 16, in college. And did you, @ladder13 play at St James Park on Jerome Ave? They used to have a big sprinkler in the summer time where the swings were and the Good Humor man pushed his cart over and your parents bought you a Dixie Cup with a flat wooden"spoon". Good memories... Wish I had the pictures to go along with these good memories! -Linda

Sorry no it was Neptune, dont recall how the full name. I think it was one Jerome and Bainbridge? They filmed some scenes of Awakenings out front. Paid them to close for the day so they could film. The store wasn't shown but the next door was.
My mom grew up just off Katona Ave, went to Walton.
Mike, Throggs Neck, we used to go to a famous Italian restaurant on Castle Hill till it closed in 2004.
The Villa Ave feasts were quite the events back in the day!
It is truly a small world, six degrees of separation?
As not to take up more space on the pictures posts.
A park near our home
