Came across this unusual pic in a picture gallery in The Guardian on the work of British cop-turned-professional-photogrpher, John Topham (1908-1992) I knew the term, "getting knocked up" but I didn't know this usage

Before the advent of reliable alarm clocks, this was a common occupation. BBC article here: Knocker uppers: Waking up the workers in industrial Britain, with another pic of the redoubtable Mrs Smith at work. Not a lady I'd want to get on the wrong side of.

Broke down and ordered some PRP Enduro Elites suspension seats for my Jeep. You go to their website and completely design the seats color pallet the way you want at no additional charge. Mine are exactly like these, but mine are just the opposite in color pallet. Red is black and black is red on mine, plus mine have yellow logos and yellow diamond stitching.
I'm thinking red roll bar pads, black seat belts with a red pin stripe would really come together well?
The wait begins, 8 weeks to build and ship. But they're top of the line for custom seats, so it's worth the wait.
Guess I'll be watching a lot of videos on these on YouTube in the meantime? lol

Oorah!! USMC Shopping List

The Marine Commandant is moving ahead with his restructuring of the Corps. His shopping list includes new items for the long range precision fire weapons against sea and land targets he plans integrating into a multi-service sensor network.

They are testing a trailered cruise missile battery, with 4 Tomahawks per canister. They pack a half-ton warhead with a 1500 mile range.

They also are mounting the new Norwegian Naval Strike Missile onto a remote controlled transporter. The warhead is a quarter-ton with a 115 mile range.

Fun at Sea

Just got a laugh at this.
On April 25th, an American destroyer captain put his ship into a Chinese warship flotilla formation transiting the Philippine Sea, aft of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning.

Yesterday, the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) completed the first scheduled explosive event of Full Ship Shock Trials while underway in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the lead ship in a new class of ships. A US aircraft carrier hasn't undergone explosive trials since 1987.

Shock trials are designed to test how Navy warships hold up against severe vibrations and identify potential shock-related vulnerabilities in a combat vessel, and have their origins in observations from the Second World War. Nearby explosions, even though vessels were not taking direct hits, would send destructive, high-pressure waves toward ships. This discovery led the Navy to implement a rigorous shock hardening test procedure.

Got the way back machine running. Here is a photo of my mother, older sister, older brother and myself at the Indians game. The picture was taken 70 years ago in 1951 (my best approximation from the schedule) in front of the old stadium in Cleveland. Everyone dressed up for the ball game. Men wore suits, ties and hats. I don't remember my father wearing a hat, ever. I think the Indians were playing the St Louis Browns. We watched the game from the cheap seats way up under the roof. I remember the hot dog and hot chocolate. I also remember it was freezing cold. I think we had a good time.

The United States and Great Britain have worked out a plan to station a US Marine air wing on the new British carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth. This allowed the British, who were short of planes to deploy aboard, to set sail with a full compliment on a seven month, 30,000 mile mission to visit 40 countries, and transit the South China Sea, a current point of contention. It also gave Marine Air valuable cross-training with an important ally.

United States Marine Corps fighter jets aboard a British aircraft carrier flew combat missions over the Middle East this week -- the first time US warplanes have gone into combat from a foreign warship since World War II. The last time US planes flew combat missions from a foreign aircraft carrier was in 1943, when American planes deployed from Britain's HMS Victorious in the South Pacific.
