He's such a beautiful boy! He looks like my sweet Jakey, who, sadly is in kitty Heaven along with Roxie, who joined him about 2 months ago.. My daughter is preparing to welcome a kitten into the family in about 2 weeks. Almost 20 years since she's had a furry little one in the family. I'll share pictures once they pick him up in mid June. Surprising how hard it is to get a kitten here and all the documentation you have to provide to prove your worthiness as a cat momma. I guess it does weed out those who wouldn't take good care of these babies, but it does make it harder to find as many good homes as possible.

With all the aircraft engines pictured, here is a GE J79 used in the Phantom F4. This one just came back from being run up in a test firing. Our test stand was at the end of the runway out of sniper range. It is waiting to be installed into a F4. There are two of these guys in the plane. Come to think abut it there isn't much else to the plane.

The second and third pictures are a F4 taking off at night. They always used after burner since they were really heavy. I was on guard duty and the bunker was next to the arresting cable bunker. I put the camera on top of a sand bag and opened the shutter. This is what I got.

Previous photo with human technician, for scale, and another model in tunnel at FDL WPAFB (1970's). This is a vertical water tunnel. Hydrodynamics and aerodynamics are both used in determining flow. If you think it looks a little like a Lancer you might have something there.

"Oh, oh.... now she's bought a telescope! ANOTHER bit of complicated technology I'll have to learn. This is exhausting."

Furry visitor on my deck tonight

Not the frst time he's put his paw in the bird seed storage tub- happened the last time I forgot to bring it inside, too. He had just removed the lid when I shone the light through the door.

We have quite a few around here this spring, but this guy (?) seems to be a regular. He's been sniffing around the perimeter of my neighbour's fence, too, and got inside the outer (un-electrified) fence a few days ago but fortunately didn't seem interested in her alpacas. She lost 4 anmals to bears last November, though, so got new fencing put in and has been busy putting 3 rows of electric wire on it. The outer enclosure is still to be done. The big boy (est. ~300 lbs.) we think killed her last alpaca is still around somewhere.

Lauterbrunnen - Swiss Valley of Death

Read about an unique problem occurring in a beautiful alpine valley in Switzerland. It has become a magnet for "Base Jumpers" that jump from the cliffs wearing wing-suits or para-gliders.

There have been 59 base-jump fatalities in the valley among the 20,000 annual jumpers, and the death sites are often marked by impromptu memorials, giving the beautiful valley an ominous appearance. To try and stem the creation of additional memorials, they have created a "Base-jumpers Memorial Monument" at the local cemetery.

Apropos for Memorial Day, Florence Italy.

The groundskeepers were so appreciative of what America did for them.

I found the same reverence and appreciation by the assistant at the Somme American Cemetery for WWI casualties.

I requested assistance there to find the grave of a man that died in battle beside late forum member Cyrano's father. After bringing me to PVT. James Spire's grave, he provided a personal tour of the facility and history lesson of the battles there. When we left, he offered his business card, in case I wanted to contact him with any questions. When I thanked him, he made it quite clear it was his honor to serve these heroes.

Every once in a while I get a day to myself, so I do something my wife wouldn't be into, like visiting Mt. St. Helens, one of my favorite places. It's just under three hours from here, and I make the trip at least once a year. It was a beautiful day! I took the selfie for my mom.
