Too many cats!?

Not sure it's possible to have too many cats although large numbers can be challenging. When we lived in Austin we were, at one time, feeding fourteen. About half were strictly outside and of the semi-feral rescue variety. College town, and at Christmas and the start of summer break there were always plenty of strays, thanks to the responsible youth in town.

These days we have four and we think that's just about the right number.

Here's Highpockets, left, and Arthur, on the right. They are great friends but spend a fair amount of time beating the tar out of one another.

Funny thing, met this guy Anthony :D, at the big car show in Carlisle PA last month. He’s from South Bend, family owns a deli and bakery.

His grandparents are from the same town in Reggio Calabria Italy that my mother’s parents were from. We could be related.
And his last name is the same as my wife’s cousins.
A simple “I like that plate” turned into an hour conversation.

"This Peregrine Falcon fledgling had been flying for over a week and his skills had improved by the day.

"While he still took food from parents, he had started to practise his hunting skills.

"He was not good enough to catch live birds in the air yet, so he took baby steps by chasing a fluttering butterfly.

"I have been photographing peregrines for years, and this was the first time I have seen fledglings play with butterflies."

Helmetshrikes Preparing to Sleep, Sabi Sands Nature Reserve, South Africa by Gary Collyer

...we heard chattering and fluttering high above us.

"When illuminated with the lamp on the vehicle, we saw these helmetshrikes huddling together against a night that was starting to turn colder."

The other day I mentioned Emilia Earhart’s Cord in some ‘dialogue’ between Tom Mix and Frank Hamer.
Emilia’s Cord has been fully restored and now looks like this.
Some colorized pics show it as yellow, but the experts say it was Tan.

The Luke 5K

attachment.php

Last Saturday's "Luke 5K" fundraiser. Luke was a very, very young man from our community that passed away from cancer several years ago. Originally conceived to help with family incidental medical expenses, the Luke 5K has become an annual event the proceeds of which go to fight childhood cancers.

My son, and virtually all the current cross country team members for boys and girls teams, led the way.

Track History

This summer, while visiting my Mother in my hometown in Southern Illinois, my son worked out on the same track I ran on 50 years before as a member of the track team. He was staying in shape for cross country and is deep into his season right now.

Had a backup software glitch that wiped out my my backup drive. Luckily I had a backup of the backup drive.:D It was missing a few months worth of pictures. So the two I took last Sunday that I was going to post here, are gone. Planning a hike out in Brazos Bend State Park tomorrow. Have not been able to go there in a couple years what with looking after Mom. Starting to find myself again now that the funeral is past. So hopefully tomorrow night I will have more pics to show.

Had a good day out at Brazos bend. Not a lot of action going on with the wildlife but the bits I got were worth it. Here are some of the shots.
