I probably annoy some shoppers at the beef display case. I try to be conscientious of other's needing to share space and select their items, and i'm Not trying to pull any fast-ones on the store or anything. But I AM guilty of needing to handle and inspect nearly every package in the display before making my selection. It gets worse - as I 'narrow down the field', I kind of stockpile a bunch of the packages in front me (different cuts, different weights, etc) from which I create a candidate pool of what I consider to be the best cuts with the best apparent marbling, thickness, etc. So, not only am I making many packages of meat temporarily inaccessible to other shoppers, I probably annoy the dept. shelf stockers too, as I frequently neglect to put all the packages I 'pass' on back in their appropriate places, after I have made my selections. Apologies....

A local earth moving guy has chickens on his ranch on the mainland. He brings eggs to the natives here. I don't have to deal with EEC, thanks to him. He doesn't wash them, and they stay fresh and tasty for a couple weeks. I still put them in the fridge.

Just got back from Lowe's and my Walmart Neighborhood Grocery.
Cheapest Eggs were 81 cents a Doz!
No! I didn't buy any.
I have 6-7 , I think and I don't recall that I have eaten an egg this month.

Q: What do 95% of people in a grocery store have in common? Other than being hungry maybe.
A: They act like they are the only ones in the store and do not have to allow room for others to move around. Most of them are older shoppers but there is a growing number of younger people so afflicted.
Like the couples who meet friends and stop in the middle of the aisle to have an extended reunion while people try to get around them.
Or who come charging out the ends of the aisles without slowing down and checking for cross-traffic. Said traffic becoming cross as they are almost run over.
My favorite was the time when I was moving slowly down the back of the store, going past the aisles. A woman comes out of an aisle, looking in the opposite direction from me. She sees something she needs and instead of pushing her cart in that direction, she gives it a shove, straight ahead to where it almost hits me and takes off in that opposite direction, without her cart, or even noticing that I was there in the path of her unmanned cart.
I have had very few real near misses, probably mainly because I am a defensive shopping cart pusher, but I am amazed at the number of people who are seeminly oblivious to anyone around them

My pet peeve is the customer who prattles incessantly while the clerk checks out the groceries (sometimes confusing the clerk when the clerk is unsure of what variety of produce to key in, etc., not all around here have upc's on all produce) and then finally, after the receipt is coming out of the printer and the clerk is looking plaintively for payment, seems surprised that the checkout is complete and that payment is due, and uses another few painful moments locating the checkbook, credit/food card, dl, or whatever, all the while prattling on about why the checkbook is lost in the vastness of the carryon, and the dl being stuck in the wallet taking a few more moments to present to the clerk...???.
If (rarely) I use a check I try to have it filled in and signed except the final amount with my dl ready. If paying cash I will have my change ready for up to about a quick 70 cents with my cash in hand. If using cc I have it ready.
I was recently given a mouth fart for using green cash for a cup of coffee purchase (not a supermarket), I guess some rather use their phone for quicker payment, than cash. I think some city (San Francisco?) recently outlawed refusing cash for retail purchases, proving that everyone has some redeeming character.
I often wonder what gaffes I make, without knowing it.

We get ours from Aldi's and, with three yutes in house, eggs don't stay in the fridge long enough to get cold.
I pay no notice to other shoppers and they usually respond in kind.

Don't know where some of you guys get your eggs but I just got home from Winn-Dixie where I purchased 18 eggs, $4.75!! Man I have to meet that chicken!
I go early in the morning right after the gym. Hardly any shoppers. As I get older I try to avoid as much of the general public as possible.
I'm still wondering about all these cheap egg prices you guys mention. Mine start at $1.29 and go up. Are they having you pick them from the coop yourselves?
Don't ever get in line behind me at the checkout. I'm doing coupons, checking what got scanned, being sure the idiot bagging doesn't mix things that shouldn't be mixed ...
If you try to push or goad me, I "drop" the coupon envelope, and you'll be waiting 5 minutes at least for me to pick them all up
But I am required by the oncologists to go at the least busy times, as they have killed my immune system, and your cold is my fatal pneumonia.

It does little good since many times they're fine on top but cracked on the bottom and stuck in the carton when you try to pull one out at home.

I love going to the grocery store, and I do all our shopping. I have friends who work there, and I almost always run into other friends who are doing their shopping.
There is always a pretty good mix of locals and tourists, and sometimes my patience gets tested, but it's been a long time since I lost my cool with anyone.
I like to go shopping when I'm hungry, because I bring home unexpected surprises.
And as far as eggs go, I've never seen anyone switching them out. I always check them, as do most people, but I've never seen a "EEC".

Some of you obviously have too many chickens...63 cents/dozen??
I just got back from our local grocery (the only one within 25 miles) $3 to $4 per dozen........ (and that's regular size. jumbos are more.)

If delays bother you and there are 24/7 grocery stores in the area, try odd times. At one time I worked 3-11 and would sometimes stop at a store on the way home. Not all that many shoppers, generally very short checkout times.
That said, be prepared for some culture shocks. It would seem that certain times/days become popular for some........groups of folks you might not ordinarily meet. Wal Martians are real, as are some other unusual sights.

Although I fall into the "dead weasel" camp on egg checking, I too enjoy the grocery store and am not ashamed to admit it. Some of the advice I remember from my dad is "never go to the grocery store hungry!"

I suppose it was my technique or I didn't hold it level or something.
