A little bit ago I accidentally splashed a bit of boiling water on myself, and it made me think of how many different ways people react to pain. For example I usually smack the counter with my palm and bite my lip. I'm just curious how do yall react to pain?

Depends who's around or the cause.
Stupid usually hurts so there will be an element of anger or embarrassment.
I landed my coccyx onto a metal grate after a 4 ft. fall when the tool I was cranking broke. Coworker rushed up to check and I asked him to give me a moment to decide whether or not to cry.
Podiatrist tried to break up a hard cyst on the side of my foot with what looked like a air needle. I would have punched him in the head had I been able to reach him.

I handle pain well at the doctors or dentists, just clinch & bear it.
But I did bite the orthodontist when I was teenager.

But when it is something I do to myself such as fall, cut, burn, there will be a string of expletives that would make a sailor blush. Think I can get every known cuss word put together in one breath.

I have had my share surgerys heart , hip stones ,all surgerys where managable. The most pain always are kidney stones no question:eek:

The string of curse words is in direct correlation with the amount of pain. :) I can't decide which is the worst pain I've ever felt. It's between the time I fell off my bike as a kid and got road burn on my left forearm from elbow to wrist, and the time I hit my thumb while hammering a nail as an adult.

cursing is my default. I'm not sure why I do it. I guess it is just an "adult" way of telling mom it wasn't your fault.

SEEN IT AND BEEN IT.

From the RN standpoint, kidney stones rank right up there & may be the gold standard/measuring stick. From me personally, it's like "who's screaming?", oh it's ME. :o

I just grin, bear it and cuss a whole lot!

same here, that's how my uncle taught us at a young age, lol, whenever we would get together for family functions and play sports, if there was an injury thats how he coached us through pain. It just stuck with me. my wife hates it bc if I get hurt doing something or suffering from my Crohn's pain I am cursing around my 3 year old lol.

I have a pretty high tolerance. For instance, I got shot on a hunting trip and went to a Navy hospital (it was a holiday). The trauma surgeon was inebriated and decided to probe for the bullet without lidocaine. I may have broken his nose with the heel of my cowboy boot!

Walked on a broken ankle for a year and a half before they operated=Dr thought it was a tendon injury=found a bone chip. Walking w/o crutches within 2 days=one day of painkillers, followed by Advil.

Fell and separated a collarbone, some ribs, and shoulder=drove myself to the ER.

Usually a few swear words. However, wife says if I get a cold, she wants to shoot me!

Pain is dealt with in one of two ways - if minor, an aspirin and a nap. If greater, than a shot of whiskey and a nap. Either way, the nap is crucial to my well-being; especially if the lawn looks like it needs mowing......................... (It's still in the mid 90s here)

A little over a week ago I had to pull the batteries out of my motorhome. It's a bad lift position but since they leaked I had to get them out.
As it would happen with my luck  I hurt my back, lower part where I have problems!:(
Now I don't know if I should stand, sit or hang upside down by my feet but my back hurts! Driving me crazy!
Right now all the over the counter extra strength stuff isn't cutting it and I've had to go to some heavy duty pain meds :( which I really don't like taking but at least they are helping me sleep at night! ;)
I just can't win?
Just got finished with my IV antibiotics for bone infection and now doing the oral regimen, what's next?
