Hello Folks, Took my Model 29-10 apart for a good cleaning and oiling. Everything went back in nicely except for one problem I can't seem to figure out. Without the side plate on, the action runs perfectly. When I install the side plate, the action binds up and won't run. Definitely has something to do with the hammer block because when I leave the part out and close up the gun, it runs perfectly. What the heck did I do that is causing the hammer block to bind up the action? Thanks for your help!

Check the orientation of the hammer block. The paddle should be toward the thumb piece side and the rebound slide pin needs to be fully engaged in the base of the hammer block.

The hammer block should be in the "up" position when installing your side plate. Trial and error. You'll figure it out.

Hold the gun upside down at about a 45 degree angle. Put in the hammer block and slide it to the upper position. Holding the gun upside down at 45 degrees will keep the hammer block in the upper position. Install the side plate and press into position. Install screws. Done.

Hammer block issue....

Thanks guys for all the assembly tips. After about 3-4 more tries, the gun went together and functions perfectly. I still have no idea why the hammer block was binding up the action on all those previous attempts to close up the action. But it was frustrating, that's for sure! Thanks again!

step 1: take hammer block out

step 2: throw hammer block into the trash

step 3: re-assemble
