A fellow called me yesterday and asked if I wanted some 38 sp brass and boxes. I said sure. He also asked if I had some 9mm bullets so he could load a few 9s for a recent gun buy. He's a very good friend so I let him have a 100 Rem 115 gr HPs and a 250 round box of Berry's plated. I left 'em on the porch and he picked them up while I was cutting wood. Anyway he brought me 800 rounds of 38sp brass. All but a 100 were 146/8 match wadcutters. 400 of them had been sized and re-primed. Most are Remington Targetmaster in the old green box but I got a bunch of other seldom(to me)seen boxes of brass including SuperVel Winchester and Peters. Kinda neat boxes to have. I may take a pic and post it of the older boxes a bit later after I finish my nightly chores. Trash day tomorrow. Gotta stuff the bin ya know!

Can't beat that, the primers are nice considering they can not be found anywhere right now.

Some of these are no longer seen. He even gave me a whole box of Winchester 38 match wadcutters. Nowhere near as old as these though. I especially like the Peter's box with the Peter's branded cases. I asked him later when he called why he didn't remove the primers. He said it was just too much trouble...and that the primers were Remington 1 1/2s. I have a couple boxes of them I can give him I think. The 2 Rem Targetmaster boxes are marked with the same stock number but one has a 146 gr bullet and the other is a 148 gr

To be honest most of the old ammo and boxs I have had is long gone. If it was old when I was a kid and it came my way....it got used. I have a few rounds of old Winchester 410s that were so old they didn't fire when I tried shooting them. I do have some old dogbone boxes of 22s down in the vault and a few small gauge shotgun shells down there too. The rest is comprised mainly of some old Winchester and Remington 348 and some 8mm Mannlicher Shoenauer Western ammo. But thinking of it now...I have some ammo I got in the 60s that would be considered antique nowdays

It is sort of nice to have the "Short" old box for your 148 gr target loads, that don't take up as much room
as the newer "Fit all" foam or plastic box that they make today.
The only draw back is that they will only swallow a 148 seated flush.

I never knew Super Vel made target ammo.
So did Smith & Wesson
I recently went through an estate and had done another 10 years ago with a lot of 38 special brass. Those boxes look very familiar.
In each case I found about 40% nickel brass for wadcutter targets bot RP and Winchester. Federal WC was 90% brass.

My now wife's dad, ran the local police range when we were dating. When My parents first met her folks, it was a dinner at her house. Her dad handed my dad 4 boxes of the Peters Police Match ammo, "You may as well have some, your taxes paid for it!" That was in 1977, dad still had half a box when he passed away a year and a half ago. ( I never understood how someone could be such a good shot without ever practicing! Great Depression thinking I guess!)
