I shot my S&W 15 today for the third time. I never noticed it before, but when I was shooting I could hear the recoil spring being compressed and un-commpressed in the stock. I have a collapsible stock on it. This was even with ear plugs in. So my question is, is this common? Or can I order a different one from somebody and not hear all that noise in the stock. on another note I don't know if it was the buffer or how far back the BCG does in to the stock I could feel that aswell transfer through the stock. And is that common? This is my first AR so I'm still wet behind the ears with her.

I have what is called a twang buster in mine it does help alleviate that problem...in the M16A1 fixed stock it was worse, When I would fire those it always sounded like a red ryder bb gun going off next to me

Mine does it too, and I have an m16A1 stock on it

My hearing must really be terrible I cant hear it lol:D

I "hear" it in mine too. I wear two set of ear protection, so I'm not so sure I hear it, as much as I feel the spring moving???

The "twang" was the first thing I noticed when I fired an AR for the first time. Not exactly what you expect to hear from a rifle.

another note I don't know if it was the buffer or how far back the BCG does in to the stock

The buffer will come close to bottoming out on the back of the buffer tube and the BCG goes about halfway out of the UR.

Back in the day when we called them M16s, and they had the solid fixed stock and no bolt assist, they sounded the same, thus the Mattie Mattel name. It's good to know some things never change. The first time I shot one I was surprised to hear more of a twang than a bang.
