Anyone else a fan of these great little guns.
I have a couple in 6mm Remington, a 308 and picked up a 350 magnum, just because. They were an economy model back in the day, pressed checkering, blind magazine with a plastic trigger guard and bottom of magazine. My first one was a little 222. I shot a lot of prairie dogs with and I regret trading away. Have had the 308 for about 40 years and have shot lots of deer with it and a couple of elk. Easy to carry, 18.5" barrels don't stick up over your shoulder much and hang up when you duck under stuff. Everyone I have owned has been accurate. I picked up a second 6mm for my step daughters to use learning to hunt deer.. I wasn't that surprised when I sighted it in with the scope I mounted and got a sub 1" 3 shot group once I dialed it in with 100gr spires. The 350 is a bit different. Brass is hard to come by, but not hard to make from 7 mm mag brass which I have lots of and no 7mm mag. The recoil is substantial in such a light gun. Going to get a better but pad for it. If I ever decide to go bear hunting it will get its chance. Plus, I can shoot some jacket and cast 357 mag plinkers in it.
Because I mount scopes on them the raise vent rib and front sight goes away to be replace by fuluch screws, except on the 350 mag which I used quick dismount mounts on.
They come in 222, 223, 243, 6mm, 308, 6.5 Remington mag, 35 Remington and 350 Remington mag. Used to be inexpensive, but now run about $600 up on the used market. I wouldn't mind finding a good deal on a 223 model as I have a couple other 223s. The 243 are great, but, have nothing on the 6mms, the 6.5 mag seams a waste with a short barrel length
The Remington single shot XP100s use the same action, just single shot with no magazine cut out and a setup to move the trigger forward. I have an XP in 221 Fireball and picked up another in 7mm BR. The 7mm barrel isn't so hot and rather than do something about that and add a caliber to my reloading, I have picked up a model 600 6mm barrel I am going to cut to 15" and install. I have heard that the XP 100 action was used for some bench rest guns and have seen some neat thumb hole stocks that kept the forward trigger to make an real short setup.
