Remora pocket holster

More than once, this 1 size fits all holster let my 649-3 leave my pocket while sitting in a car seat.

Yesterday, not thinking about it, when I got out of the car my 649-3 hit the driveway. Luckily, the U.M. Boot grip took most of the hit and I lightly sanded the marks out of the frame and re-polished the SS. No harm, no foul.

But the Remora goes in the garbage. Rant over.

Sorry for your trouble. Had a similar problem, fixed it with a DeSantis Nemesis.

I carry my 640 Pro that is over 23oz unloaded in a Remora IWB and have never had a problem with it. But that's IWB not the pocket. The only thing I carry in my pocket, also in a Remora, is a Beretta 21a 22. The Beretta has never even come close to falling out of my pocket.

Did the gun leave the holster? Or did the holster and gun leave the pocket?

The gun left the holster. Holster stayed in pocket. Draw from this holster was outstanding, retention was another issue. I don't remember the model number, but it is a "generic" fits j-frame 2" type holster.

Oh, I have used it IWB and it was acceptable. My bad for not just getting a proper holster. I'm of the school that you don't have to have a custom made holster, but a holster made for a specific gun.

BTW, all my kydex holsters are custom made and specific for each gun, no other model gun will fit it properly, including a kydex pocket for a 638.

I don't have any leather holsters as of yet, but am on the "list" for a custom made one for a speed six.

I recommend you replace it with a MIKA holster. Custom made for the gun, and for the pocket of your pants. I have several of them and they are all perfect.

This is one of the reasons I rarely pocket carry my 642 in my Nemesis holster (I also find it rather bulky). There is very little, if any, retention on the gun. I've never had the gun fall out, but mostly because I wear jeans where the cut of the pocket opening is more horizontal than the opening on slacks/khakis. I could see it happening in khakis. If I were to pocket carry more I'd want a holster with a little more retention.

On the other hand, the Nemesis's lack of retention makes it a good nightstand holster for me. A little downward pressure on the gun while drawing and it comes out. If I fail to draw the gun from the holster when grabbing it a quick shake and the holster falls off.

i think you have a pants problem. the pockets don't fit the holster right, the pockets may not be deep enough to hold the holster.

I use the Galco line of horsehide holsters for both my J frame and M&P .380 and never have a problem one way or another.

Definitely was a contributing factor on this particular pair of cargo shorts. But that doesn't take away the fact of the "one size fits many" holster issue. The holster fits perfectly in the pocket, albeit, it shows a little more grip from the pockets edge than normal. Still the retention (friction) is not what is should be when a holster fits more than 1 gun. (I knew this going in).

This holster doesn't really hold either the 638 or 649 particularly well.

My kydex made for this gun, never lets it loose unless I draw. To put a example on this point, my kydex holster is made for my 638 (1.875") barrel. My 649 (2.125") barrel does not fit properly. That being said, I don't haul my 649 in my pocket using the kydex made for the 638.

It boils down to me being a cheap skate and I almost damaged a gun that is a personal favorite.

ContinentalOp, Old cop, I've heard many thing good about the Mika and Galco, I might look into that, as kydex is not my favorite for pocket carry but it sure is effective.

I was looking at the Remora website and they recommend heating the holster, then cooling the holster, to make it better conform to the to the gun. Did the OP follow those instructions? I don't have one of these holsters but it does seem to me that it would be a loose fit regardless. My opinion of any "one size fits all" or "one size fits many" is that it never fits anything just right.

Remora are not one size fits all, but a particular size may fit several guns of the same size and shape. I have one for an LCP, and I have carried my Bersa IWB with it with no problems.

I have a Milt Sparks for pocket carry and it is awesome. Expensive, but i'd do it again.

I'm with you Ginzo. I've never had luck with Remora's. They do have outstanding customer service however.
