removing firing pin from 617

Unless you have NO choice.... you don't.

If you must, you drive out the cross pin in the frame, then press the firing pin and the frame bushing out toward the barrel.
This requires a special press to press the pin and bushing out.
Drive it out with a punch and you risk damaging the frame.
Done right, you also use a press to press the cross pin out to prevent dinking up the pin head or the frame.

Installation also requires a press device to align and press the bushing back in.
This uses a long press punch that works down the barrel.

Use drive punches to get it out and back in at your own risk.

The firing pin bushing pin is just below the rear sight. Drive it out. You'll want to use a cup tip punch. Take a punch and small hammer and drive the firing pin GENTLY towards the barrel, from the hammer end, pushing the firng pin, pin spring and bushing out.

I reinstall using a couple sections of AR-15 cleaning rod to reach down thru the barrel. The fun part is getting the alignment of the cross pin cut right. It has to be perfect or you'll force the pin and mess up the bushing etc.

It's not that hard to do but you do need to be carefull.
