Removing front sight block / miling machine

To each their own.
I'm the kinda guy that makes a point to clean my dryer vent line at least once a year too.

Comparing the gas tube to the dryer vent is like comparing apples to orangutans... :D

Unlike your dryer vent, there is nothing that is going to hang up in the gas tube and catch fire. Every once in a while you can shoot some cleaner through it... if you see it come out in the barrel, it is all good.

Removing and re-installing the front gas block could actually be detrimental to the performance. Over time, the gas block and barrel will wear. The pins in the gas block will come loose. If you get a set screw or pinch type, the block itself could develop leaks which could reduce performance.

When I was training to go to Afghanistan we used old M16s. Some were so old they had the word Auto scratched out and the word Burst etched in its place. None of the guns had any malfunctions and none have ever had the gas tube or gas block removed or cleaned. If you own your gun for 15 years and shoot 200 rounds every weekend, you won't reach the round count those guns have seen.

Trust me, the gas system doesn't need to be cleaned.
