So I have a 5906 with the larger rear sight that you can make a lot of adjustments to, sorry can't rememer what it's called. And then I also have a 4013 with the smaller novak but also somewhat adjustable rearsight.

I am having a tough time removing either. I know the novak slides out to the right side of the gun, if looking at it from the rear. But I removed the screw and the damn thing won't budge. What I do here? The 5906 sight just seems to be stuck there, is it fixed, what am I missing? Thanks for the help, Daniel.

If you have the factory "winged" sight the guard is screwed on. You need to remove the sight leaf by pressing in the hinge pins at the front of it. Once it's out you'll see the screws holding it to the slide. Novaks are a tight fit, usually need a brass or alumimun punch to drift them out.

This is armorer level work, and if you haven't been schooled I'd stay away from taking the rear sights off.

Frankly, there is no real need to do so unless you are swapping out rear sights for night sights, etc.

There are two springs and plungers under the rear sight, and it is easy to screw things up if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Re-installing the rear sight same-same.

The rear Novack sights are tight. and meant to be that way in the dovetail, I would expect that one would need a sight pusher or brass drift and hammer to move them, I always did.

Hey thanks for the advice. I do have a low profile Mec-Gar site that I would like to swap in for the higher no longer lit Novak site on my 4013. Anyone have an opinion on this variety of adjustable site. I picked a couple of them up at a local gun shop for $20 in their odds and ends bin.
