“Dear Mr………..

Thank you for contacting me regarding gun sales and ownership in America. I appreciate the opportunity to respond.

I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and the right of law-abiding citizens to possess firearms. The Framers enshrined this right in our Constitution for a reason, and I remain committed to protecting that important liberty.

At the same time, the safety and security of our families is one of my top priorities. As a U.S. Senator, I am committed to ensuring any legislative proposal that Congress considers carefully balances the preservation of every individual liberty enshrined in the U.S. Constitution with the promotion of public safety.

Again, thank you for your correspondence. I am proud to represent every citizen in Florida and I appreciate the time you took to provide your position on this matter. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Rick Scott
United States Senator”

His response does not thrill me nor fill me with confidence as to his level of “fight” for our rights. However, he did respond…….

Same junk response he sent me. I've already informed him--signer of FL Red Flag laws--I am voting for his opponent, no matter whom it might be. Him and that other worthless FL senator--and Mast too. RINOs all.

So, as long as proposed legislation promotes the public safety our individual liberties are at risk. I think not.

"As a U.S. Senator, I am committed to ensuring any legislative proposal that Congress considers carefully balances the preservation of every individual liberty enshrined in the U.S. Constitution with the promotion of public safety."

Translation - My re-election does not hinge on this one issue, so I can afford to be vague and non committal.

I have no desire to be pinged for "going political" here, so I think I'll stop typing this reply about my Senator before I explode...

He has become a “Professional Politician” - more concerned with retaining his position then with representing and speaking for the people who elected him. To say I’m disappointed would be putting it mildly; to say more would get me Dinged.

Senator Scott, is NO FRIEND of the Second Amendment! He is great friends with Disney, Sea World, Universal, and anyone that will give him two cents!

A typical, crooked billionaire!

Why doesn't the "government" try something different: enforce existing laws about committing crimes with firearms ? ? ?

I would LOVE that. Unfortunately, we have hashed that issue over so many times on this forum it's almost a cliche'.

My position was and remains - What are you willing to to put up with in order for all of the current gun laws to be enforced? Higher taxes? Almost certainly. Larger enforcement agencies? Undoubtedly. Less enforcement on other issues in order to increase it for the gun laws? Quite possibly. But the hardest issue to swallow would be having to make changes to some laws so they can either be enforced or others can be enforced.

It's nothing short of a quagmire, and as I've said - we've been down that rabbit hole before...

They could stop pleading away gun charges for a start. No extra enforcement required there.

No extra enforcement, maybe - but the justice system is more than just enforcement.

I'm going to point out that the jails are over-crowded and under-staffed. So what are you willing to accept in order to stop "pleading away" gun charges? Higher taxes? More jails? More staff? More pleading away other charges? Our criminal justice system is so overtaxed it has almost become a Zero-Sum equation - in many instances in order for something to get done something else has to give.
