I bought this last month after seeing it on a gun auction site. I used to have a M19 years ago and wanted another one. It looked pretty poorly/neglected and I thought a little TLC would bring it back to life. I won the auction and picked it up for what I believe was a fair price. Upon closer inspection it looked like it came out of a PD Evidence locker. There was some surface rust and minimal pitting on the exterior and the innards looked horrible. The wooden stocks appeared to have some sort of tape residue on them that would not come off. I took it home anyways knowing it needed a new home.

After a thorough cleaning and refinishing the stocks it looked much better. I would like to introduce a "new to me" 19-4 that I am proud to own.

Sounds like something I would do. Outstanding job. I see lots of fun range time in your future with that beauty.

Congratulations. The 4" Model 19 (and 15) are my favorite S&W's.

I too have purchased guns just because I "felt sorry for them" for lack of a better term. I'll take them home, give a good cleaning, lightly polish the exterior with Flitz, then wax it. A rag wet with just warm water will usually make the stocks look presentable.

The difference can be as striking as yours. Good job.

Nice find and job! Now you do not need to fret over the "vintage vapors" about shooting it. Enjoy that one.

Nice job! Always heart-warming to see a good old gun get cleaned up and put back into use by someone that cares, especially a 19-4. It's probably my favorite of all the modern S&Ws. Congrats on your new sixgun! :)

Amazing transformation. Did you re-blue?

Yes, it did make a total difference. No, I didn't re-blue it. I soaked it pretty good in some oil and used my fingernail to scrape off any loose rust. Used a little acetone on a rag to remove any residue and then waxed it. I removed the stocks and followed directions on a thread by DWFAN on refinishing stocks. I haven't shot it yet....but will!

Beautiful restoration, enjoy it.
Lived in Round Rock many years ago. I left a lot of lead in the hill country back then out of a 4 inch blued 19-3. My all time favorite revolver. During my 1911 obsession I made the mistake of selling all my revovlers. I recently picked up a 19-4 to replace it.

That old gun looks like it has a LOT of life left in it!
Nice work.
