I am a retired Cop who retired 3 years ago after 30 years. When I started we carried .357 Smith 66's and most everybody carried a 2 inch .38 for backup. We had 6 cell kel lights that weighed a lot and we knew that the flashlight had multiple uses. Our uniform pants had a pocket for a black jack (sap) for a reason. As the years went by things changed the baton was no longer rose wood, the black jack became a paper weight and the flashlights only had one use. We went through the change to the wonder 9's and cops became wannabe commandos. The gun belts once careful polished leather turned to nylon and gone were the mirror shined buckles. In the last few years my sidearm was plastic and green colored and the new guys put together patrol rifles that needed three different types of batteries and weighed in at 14 pounds. Now I have gone back to my roots my every day carry gun is a smith 640 in .357. I like carrying speed loaders and a speed strip. My holster is once again black leather. But I have to admit I like the lighter and brighter flashlights. I would enjoy hearing from the folks out there who share my memories of days gone by. Thanks and have a safe day!
