4 weeks ago I joined a local NRA Bullseye club. I surprised myself in reaching Pro Marksman after 3 weeks in. I own a 22A which I would like to tune up for better handling as in wooden grip and maybe some machining on the back of the slide to get a better grip when grabbing it. I noticed the newest model has ribs that increase grip. Anybody have suggestions for improvements?

Return to Bullseye

Hi Abouttrout

Glad to hear that you are shooting again. I believe that Smith and Wesson makes a laminated set of target grips for the Model 22A. I think they list for $74 on the SW website. You may find a cheaper set on Ebay or Gun Broker or pehaps at a gun show. I found a set of target rosewood grips for my SW 52 for around $35 at a gun show.

I installed a set of Herritt target grips on my Model 41 and it has helped me substantially in my hold.

I have nothing against the 22A, but will relate a situation in our club. A friend has one that he has been shooting about three years, in informal bullseye. The barrel attachment stud has shifted and the frame has 'WALLOWED OUT" enough that the gun will not maintain zero. He contacted S&W and it is not covered under any warranty. Just be aware this can happen so don't put too much money in fixing your gun up, put it in a Mod 41 which will last nearly forever.
