Can someone tell me how the Smith revolver rear sight blades are measured. I have to replace one or 2 but am not sure about the blade height to replacement to order. Thanks

Above answer is horribly incomplete!

Turn the windage screw to move the sight slide left until it is as far out the left side of the base as it will go, then measure the height of the portion sticking out with a dial caliper or micrometer, that is the height of the slide!

Thanks, but not how they are installed but how you figure out which one you need

The model name would be helpful, since rear target sights have changed a few times over the last 124 years on K frames and 117 years on N frames . . . or is it your handle "329"?

There YouTube videos out there on the "how to" replacement of a rear sight blade. Make sure you find one that matches your model as recommended. Good luck!

If the elevation is within adjustment range then a replacement slide would be the same as the measurement taken as described in my last post! If it shoots low then the next higher slide, and if high then the next lower slide should be chosen as a replacement.

Simply call S&W Customer Service at 800-331-0852. Tell them what you have now and that you want a slide a step higher or lower as needed. It will come in a kit. Don't forget to also ask for 1 or 2 plungers and springs too, you are going to lose at least one the first time!

To replace the sight blade you have to "break" out the original one and have a kit to replace it,
