I was looking over my (new, unfired) M&P 10 yesterday and noticed that the roll pin that holds in the gas tube was shiny,so I looked at it closer with a magnifying glass. It looked smashed, for lack of a better word.Knocked it out from the opposite side and discovered that the roll pin was only straight for about half its length. The rest was mushroomed and smashed flat and was the shiny thing I had seen, flush with the left side of the gas block.I'm not sure if it even made it all the way to the gas tube.Needless to say,I am disappointed that the rifle came like this new in the box.Now I need to go to Harbor Freight and get 5/64 roll pins.Yay,road trip.

Hopefully the Harbor Freight roll pins are stout and can take a good tapping. I have found some of their stuff to be pretty good.... and a lot of it to be less than ideal.

If the replacement roll pin does not work, there might be an issue with the hole drilled for the pin. That might need some looking at if that were the case.

Good luck!
