Rough Ride for the Loco Pilot

Another dumb 18 wheeler driver trying to get a low boy trailer over a raised train track! They had an accident like that a little over a year ago with a dummy truck driver going off route and trying to cross at a no lo-boy marked crossing that got smacked by a train. It had LA182 shut down there for a while.

EDIT: Here is a link to the New Iberia train wreck, someone caught it on their phone.

Seems like low boy drivers just cannot help themselves when it comes to railroad crossings.

That sure got the low-boy off of high-center! As my old grandpap would say, “I bet that broke that truck driver of sucking eggs!”

From the article "The cause of the incident is under investigation."

Really? The cause is some dumb***** truck driver high-centered his trailer carrying a giant fricking tank on the RR crossing. No investigation needed. Hope the truckers insurance covers the damage to the locomotive and the tank. That loco threw that tank around like it was a VW.

Yep, sure did. In the New Iberia accident I linked, it derailed a bunch of rail cars too and had the highway next to the tracks shut down for a few weeks in the area of the accident if I remember correctly.

‘Like a bomb going off’: Train crashes into semitruck hauling military vehicle

"GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCSC) - No one was hurt after a train crashed into a tractor-trailer that was hauling a military vehicle in Goose Creek.

The Goose Creek Police Department was notified of the crash around 12:40 p.m. Thursday on Liberty Hall Road.

A "lowboy semi-truck" was struck by a CSX train, according to CSX spokesperson Austin Staton.

Witnesses said the semi truck’s trailer got stuck on the railroad tracks and was unable to get out of the way of the oncoming train."

I didn't see the typical warning signs about possible clearance issues. Might have been further back or not there. I once tied up traffic in a small town on a Friday night walking up to check a train crossing before I ran out of options.

Watching the turret spin, I think there might be a hefty repair bill for the turret lock-if equipped.

Is that a tank? It looks like a self-propelled artillery piece.

The widely used M109 carries a 155-mm howitzer and is the principal self-propelled artillery support for U.S. Army divisions. It is a large tracked vehicle with a fully traversable turret and prominent bustle.

Saw a post by a Marine officer (Kagan Dunlap) - he identifies it as an M109 Paladin. It will be interesting to see if the cross was adequately marked or if the (soon to be former, I suspect) trucker ignored warnings.
