Ruger MK II 10" Target background info:

Bought a used pistol with a scope and no factory sights. I'm removing the scope and installing a set of Ruger OEM MK II take-off sights. A front sight mounting screw came with the sights but it won't fit.

Does it make any difference whether the rear sight dovetail is inserted from the left or right side of the pistol?

What's the thread size of the front sight tapped hole?

Mark II sights...........

the front sight screws used to be 6-48 but at some time they changes to 6-40. and as for the rear sight makes no matter what side you go in from usually right to left but make sure you back out the rear sight "set screw" before trying.....helps to put the receiver in a well padded bench vise to keep things firm, solid and no bounce for the brass or nylon punch you use to push the sight body over and into place....center the sight body and use the adjustment for the blade itself ,if needed...hope this helps

someone may have put the wrong short screw in the set of sights you received, or a burr in the sight hole itself, use a bottom tap ( flat) to chase the threads maybe....good luck

On Ruger rear sight dovetails, it goes in from the left, when looking at the rear of the pistol. You push it out from the right. There is a few thou taper I believe. You can help yourself out by making sure the bottom of the sight is smooth. A sheet of super fine sandpaper on a sheet of glass works well. Just to take off the high spots. Don't mess with the dovetail.

I have a whole family of Mark pistols. They just keep breeding more when my partner isn't looking.....
