If you don't already, dehumidify your safe with a Golden Rod. +1 on gun socks.

NEVER store them in a plastic case with foam insert.
That foam is the worse for retaining moisture and will destroy a firearm.

Seriously, it never hurts to make sure a gun is first well coated, and then the excess wiped off.
I love the RIG rag. A friend convinced me to try it after years of talking.
A RIG rag is a piece of sheepskin, ACID-FREE, that has RIG (Rust Inhibiting Grease), also acid free, distributed in the wool.
I know it sounds messy, but it is not.
Properly distributed through the wool, you put an almost microscopic layer of grease on the gun.
You can lay the gun on your wife's table cloth or a white shirt and leave way less residue than a gun that has been oiled, IF it leaves any residue.
My friend collected pre-war engraved German combo guns, which we shot and hunted with.

I use Damprid in my safe. Buy it at Walmart. Cheap and last a long time. Oil your guns down every few months to. That is what I do.

After each use I clean my guns oil the internals and wipe the out side with a silicone cloth, I cut a corner of the silicone cloth and use it to run through the barrel and I keep an dry air thing I got from Duluth Trading it absorbs the moisture and it can be reused over and over by drying it in the oven.

Clp works for me. Check at least once a month and renew the coating. Only a light coat is necessary.

Do you mean like the stock S&W case? Have you had problems with them?

I use RIG. Eezox also works very well and it protects after it has dried
Oil, most any kind really. Please don't bring any PRK ideas. (just kidding) Otherwise welcome to Oregon.
PS I've found rust in our area (the wet west part) less of a problem then most think.

Try a spray ( or liquid ) called " Fluid Film". It is sold at many John Deere dealerships and full service auto parts stores. Someone on a firearms forum recommended it to me. Use in conjunction with many of the suggestions listed above. Fluid Film is used in many off-shore salt water environments.

Yup, those and any other open foam type.
They'll not only pull moisture out of the air, but also wick away oil from the firearm leaving it unprotected.
It's a real issue in places with high humidity and/or swamp coolers.
I've refinished more than a few rusted and pitted up firerarms because of it.
I live in southern Maryland and it gets pretty humid here. Rust is definitely a problem and I also use RIG. I have tried many different products but the one that has proven to work the best for me is RIG. I get a small piece of soft cloth and work in the RIG just enough to cover the cloth. You don't want/need it in excess, a little goes a long way. Rub a nice even coat on the metal and you should be good for quite some time. I have found it can last up to 6 months f not handled and wiped thin or off.

I use a spray gun silicone. I spray them 100% wet then wrap them in the s&w paper.(handguns).
