I bought a police turn-in S&W 19-3 with a good deal of holster wear and some significant rust and pitting under the Pachmayr grips. The revolver is reliable and is used for IDPA. It will not sit on display anywhere. I thought about getting it reblued because I don't want to wipe rust off ever other day. I also want to research other finishes, such as teflon or duracoat.

What do the masses recommend I do?

If you want it to look original, a factory refinish would be a good idea. For durability I would opt for a dark Teflon-based or a light hard chrome finish. Please send the photos after you decide.

Personally I would send it back to S & W and let them restore the factory finish. Unless it is abused after the restoration, you should get many many years out of it. Just remember, some finishes are more durable than others, but no finish will last forever if the gun is used regularly (with the exception of stainless of course).

Just my 2 cents.

good luck,

Thanks kenster. I'll check it out.

...and to Chief38. The original deep blue finish would certainly look the best.
