Would like to see if some of the 1076 experts would be able to put some sort of value on an FBI 1076 in the original box marked ship to FBI Academy. The box has owners manual safety manual and warranty card and unopened cleaning kit. The gun looks like new and I was told it has only had 4 mags put thru it. Comes with 4 sets of grips the palm swell curved grip and one that's a little different only at the bottom and then the straight grip that's on the gun. 17 magazines two which are still in the unopened S&W plastic bags. Only two of the mags look like they have ever been put in the gun. 17 new magazine springs. One box of Federal XM100A. One box of Winchester Western 10mm Subsonic marked sample "C" restricted for law enforcement only. I did talk to someone at Winchester and they told ne that very few were ever made before they pulled out of competing to devlope the load for the FBI and let Federal have it. Any help on value for complete package? Thanks very much.

You might get $2-3000 for it, but the family connection you mentioned in a previous post cannot really be valued, and you could never duplicate the package again at any price. Hopefully you are asking for insurance purposes

.Recently there was an FBI 1076 on gun broker. Asking price was 1600. No bids, it did not sell. Seems buyers are not willing to put out high prices for this gun as in years past. I have an FBI 1076 and three standard/civilian models. They all shoot the same.

A $50 production letter from Roy Jinks showing the guns linage could further increase the overall value of the package.

I think I should get the letter to help. The only info I could find on the sample "C" box was from a collector in Texas that told me the only other box of sample C he had ever seen sold on GB two years ago for 876$ and they went crazy for it.

I would definitely sell the ammo separately if it can bring that type of price; also you might do better overall selling the mags, springs, and grips separately. It will take longer, but you will have a broader market because those items do not require an FFL transfer.

For purposes of this classifieds on this forum the letter may not be necessary. The gun is legit assuming the serial number matches the box (I couldn't see it because of a blurry picture). A simple call to S&W can get you confirmation that it shipped to the FBI, if you get the right guy on the phone.
You might be better breaking the package up, meaning the ammo and such. I'm certainly not suggesting separating the box, manuals, tools, and gun.
I'm on board with Alan's(Murphydog) price. There was actually a guy in the WTB adds looking for one of these shipped in 1990. That's info he could confirm for himself with a similar call to S&W.
IF...IF IF...it were mine and and I were to try to sell I would also break it out into ammo, original configuration pistol/mags/box and papers and then mags separately. Your 13 or 14 or 15 or whatever EXTRA mags you have will bring $30-$40 each.
The ammo..no idea but I think plenty..
Then your down to the pistol/box and original contents. I sold one of those about 6 mo ago for $1500. Use that as a staring conservative starting point. You should be able to figure from there. Even if I owned all of it I would sell all but the pistol set and maybe a box of rare ammo. (Oh I forgot about the grips......they bring different buyers...Good Luck.

If it is hard to turn down then why don't you take it, if it is a good offer then the bird in hand is better than one in the bush.
The 1076 is not really a low production gun, it is not a performance center piece with only hundreds of pieces made. They made thousands of them. The FBI stigma use to have no value at all until a few on GB brought 2-3 grand. If it is in the ball park then you should take the offer. If you don't then you could hold on to a gun only to sell it for equal or less money 6 months from now.

I agree with you Dave. Before I was sent up to Mr Jenks at S&W I was speaking to a lady that was helping me with it. I gave her the serial # and after a minute she replied that's strange. I think your exactly right there is more than I know.

Why not share the serial number here? Some of us know quite a bit about these guns and you may find out the info that makes this one so special.
I have bought and sold a number of them myself. DMC who posted above probably knows more about these guns than anyone else I have come across. He actually wrote an article in the SWCA journal about them with more information than anyone had gathered previous.
Like I said earlier, there was a guy in the WTB section looking specifically for a FBI 1076 that shipped in 1990. You may have exactly what he is looking for.

What I'm particularly interested in are the grips you have. Only the three well known grips were made for the FBI. There is no record of a fourth grip. Could you provide close up photos of the grips? Is there a round dot on the bottom of each grip? Is there a number, e.g., 1, 2 or 3 stamped on the bottom of the grips? Anything on the inside of the grips? I'm also interested in the guide rod in your pistol. A very early FBI 1076 may have an aluminum guide rod. Checking is easy, just use a magnet. Thanks, dmc8163
On the grips. The palm swell grip has nothing but a dot. The curved grip has nothing but a dot. The one that's just a little bit different at the bottom of the grip has the letter "P" on it. The straight grips are on the gun. Checked the guide rod and it must be aluminum. There is no way my camera will show that little P on the grip.
