After 40 odd years of owning 22 pistols and semi-autos, decided I'd had enough of heavy triggers and lousy accuracy and picked up a S&W 18-4 and became a member of the form. Spend more time reading than posting, but a lot of good information and cool pictures to look over. From my reading, I've found out that Mod18-4 were made from 1977 to 1985. The one I have has a serial #228K9XX, I'm curious what year it was produced. It came with the factory wood grips, which I replaced with a set of Pachmyers I had.(The camera flash makes it look like it has more wear than it really does, not into using camera.)

Your model 18 was shipped in 1982; production and ship dates for popular models are close together, but in the 1980s I'd guess this would not have been a super-fast seller and it may have sat on a factory shelf a while before being sold to a distributor. Welcome to the addiction ;) .

My 18-4 in the 97K range is from about 1981 or so. It's my favorite K22 shooter. When I got it had some rubber grips on it I didn't like so I replaced them with a pair of Herritt "shooting stars". I like them a lot better, everyone has a favorite style of grips.

My favorite grip combination. Fits my hand and positions it just right.

This is my 18-4 with pinned barrel. It's a bit older than yours.
